Infotrieve Using Inxight ThingFinder to Identify Drugs, Diseases, Anatomy, Organisms, Genes and Chemicals in Drug Discovery Research

Infotrieve, Inc., a global provider of content management technology and information services, announced today that it is using Inxight® Software’s ThingFinder™ to discover drugs, diseases, anatomy, genes, chemicals and other entities relevant to drug discovery. Working with content providers, Infotrieve is utilizing Inxight’s entity extraction engine to analyze the full-text of millions of journal articles, patent abstracts, NCBI gene records, news articles and more. The discovery of these entities, and their revealed relationships, simplifies research and supports scientists’ ability to search, discover and create.

Inxight ThingFinder automatically identifies and extracts key entities such as people, dates, places, companies or other “things” from any text data source, in multiple languages. Using Inxight ThingFinder, Infotrieve enables scientists to reveal deep and meaningful relationships across traditionally disparate types of content. Infotrieve’s new search and discovery tools uses ThingFinder’s extraction technology to identify drugs, diseases, organisms, genes, chemicals and other entities relevant to drug discovery.

Inxight, the leading provider of enterprise software solutions for information discovery, provides the most comprehensive and advanced set of text analysis and retrieval tools on the market, including search, entity and fact extraction, categorization and taxonomy management. Inxight’s unique understanding of the information inside text, which is sensitive to the language in which it originates, powers accurate search and comprehensive metadata creation capabilities for applications ranging from information retrieval to data mining to trend analysis.

Infotrieve Launches Life Science Research Center
Infotrieve recently announced plans to launch its new web-based search and discovery research environment, the Life Science Research Center (LSRC). The LSRC simplifies scientists’ daily workflow by providing a robust user interface to search diverse types of scientific, technical and medical information, and utilizes Inxight ThingFinder to identify relationships across traditionally disparate sources of content. The Life Science Research Center will enable full-text searching of pre-indexed STM content such as literature, patents, drug pipeline data, genes, technical protocols, laboratory products and industry news.

“The Life Science Research Center employs a radically different approach to discovery, evolving the traditional use of content from a ‘find-and-review’ approach to a unique ‘search-discover-and-create’ approach capable of delivering dramatic improvements in research processes and outcomes,” said Infotrieve President and CEO Wes Crews.

In addition to full-text searching and the identification of relationships through entity extraction, categorization and concept clustering, the Life Science Research Center features secure metadata searching of external and internal corporate data sources, personalization for individuals and collaborative workgroups, and a multitude of robust search capabilities. The LSRC is the latest addition to Infotrieve’s emerging research and development platform that increases the value of organizational content and improves scientists’ existing workflow. Infotrieve is currently integrating the Infotrieve Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) with the Life Science Research Center, as well as literature retrieval, and laboratory product purchasing.
