Insightful Announces S-PLUS Clinical Pack for SAS Software Users

The S-PLUS Clinical Pack is designed to incorporate the rich graphics and modern analytics of S-PLUS within the SAS environment and to enable life sciences companies to leverage the expertise of S-PLUS statisticians across the enterprise. Statisticians and clinical programmers can use the S-PLUS Clinical Pack to create modern S-PLUS statistical and graphical analyses rapidly from within SAS software, without any specialized training. S-PLUS graphical analyses augment the “tables and listings” produced using SAS software, allowing statisticians, clinicians, marketing, and other associates to more quickly and comprehensively review clinical study results.

The S-PLUS Clinical Pack includes:
— S-PLUS Graphics Libraries comprising S-PLUS scripts that work smoothly on SAS objects from within SAS software sessions. The library includes the popular Trellis graphics that are well-suited to a variety of aspects of clinical trial data analysis, e.g. assessing recruitment sub-populations (such as severity balance), outlier identification, lab measurement summaries, and sub-group analysis.
— A collection of macros for calling the functions in the S-PLUS Graphics Library and managing the SAS environment from an S-PLUS graphics perspective. The macros provide a simple harness for calls to the S-PLUS functions, and allow graphics and analytics summaries to be output to prescribed locations and/or incorporated within SAS ODS reports.
— S-PLUS offers enhanced procedures for batch processing including verbose logging and creating output files and methods for controlling these files and their components. S-PLUS and SAS output and (verbose) log files may be integrated within directories or files for convenient access. Comprehensive session, data, and job information is detailed in the integrated SAS and S-PLUS log and output files, in accordance with regulatory audit trail requirements.
— Scripts for combing the log and output files so that entire analyses on specific projects can be automated and/or triggered by changes in data sources or environments, and debugging based on automated keyword and error condition checking of the log/output files.
— S-PLUS XML libraries for input/output of XML. Some XSL style sheets for converting between CDISC XML and S-PLUS XML are available with the S-PLUS Clinical Pack, enabling CDISC I/O from the S-PLUS environment.
— Setup and training from Insightful professional services. This service allows organizations to extend and customize the S-PLUS graphics libraries and the macro collection to their particular needs, so that repetitive and/or important graphics and analytics can be included in the framework for rapid access by the group of SAS software programmers.
