Introducing STARLIMS QM 12.1 & Automated Validation Framework and Testing Kit

We are pleased to announce the STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM12.1 release, which is built on the latest STARLIMS Technology Platform v12.0.
The features included in STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM12.1 are:
- Enhancements to the Request Management Portal which includes multi-sample request for a material, sample meta data, and the ability to print sample labels.
- Enhancement to default lifecycles to allow un-cancelling a test with a configurable electronic signature.
- Enhancements to sample group templates to enforce unique sample group template names.
- Enhancements to the Bypass ELN functionality, requesting a confirmation or a configurable electronic signature before the action takes place.
- Bug fixes.
- An automated verification kit provided alongside the software product.
The Request Management Portal is fully integrated within the STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution and provides a point of collaboration between our customers and their clients. It allows clients to submit material test requests and provides real time visibility for both parties of the request status as well as detailed results of the testing performed.
The enhancement allows our customers’ clients to include multiple materials within a request and associate multiple samples for each material. These samples could have different testing profiles, descriptions and container information.
Metadata templates allow for additional information to be associated with the sample without the need of customizations. Our customers will be able to configure a default metadata template at the material sample level which will be available when their client creates a request.
Furthermore, our customers’ clients will be able to print labels for each sample within the request. When the processing labs receive the physical samples, they will be able to quickly associate the samples with the respective projects to be processed. The labels for the samples coming from requests are completely configurable.
Additionally, enhancements have been included to allow authorized users to revert tests that have been cancelled by error and to re-instate them. An electronic signature will be recorded as part of the transaction.

The time and resources required to validate a new LIMS, or even implement an upgrade is a barrier for many. With a tool that automates the process of running test scripts, go-lives of new software implementation will be faster and the execution of regression tests for software upgrades will be simplified. In addition, with an automated tool, the likelihood of human error during manual execution of test scripts would be significantly reduced. The company SmartBear provides this automated tool.
Abbott Informatics is now utilizing the Automated UI Testing Tools, TestExecute and TestComplete, by SmartBear. With the purchase of licenses from SmartBear and the STARLIMS Automated Validation Framework and Testing Kit, the process of validating a LIMS system in-house will be automated. If the STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM12.1 is not being utilized as delivered out-of-the-box, the test scripts can be modified. This is possible with training from SmartBear or by purchasing Abbott Informatics Professional Services. In conclusion, this tool can reduce the barrier of implementing or upgrading to STARLIMS Quality Manufacturing Solution QM12.1.
