Is your LIMS worth the price paid?

The price of LIMS systems ranges all over the map.  With so many LIMS products on the market serving such a wide range of applications, what is a consumer to do?  How do you measure value?

By their very nature, LIMS are enterprise class applications that should have the potential to run most all aspects of the laboratory.  LIMS are essentially the ERP of the laboratory business.  The purpose of the LIMS is to manage most all aspects of data generated by the laboratory and to present that data as meaningful information to the customers of the laboratory.  This is a fact, regardless of what type of laboratory you have.  Everyone has customers that they serve and the lab is no different.  What a lab produces is information.  This fact means that the lab needs an Information Management System.  Tack the word Laboratory on the front and what do you get….  LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).

Every laboratory that does anything has a LIMS whether it is paper based, Excel or MS-Word based or a fully functional enterprise system like those listed on this site.

So, now that we have established that you probably and in all likelihood have a LIMS in your laboratory, tell us about the value to your lab by taking the short poll below:
