Kaltim Prima Coal selects MineTrak & CCLAS

PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) has recently placed an order to implement the MineTrak and CCLAS software at it’s coal mining operations in Kalimantan Indonesia. KPC, previously owned by Riotinto is now part of the PT Bumi Resources group – one of the largest publicly listed mining companies in Indonesia.

KPC is one of the largest coal mining companies in Indonesia with mines in Sangatta and Bengalon.  Sangatta was the first mine to go into production and more recently Bengalon commenced production at the end of 2004.

The CCLAS Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is being installed at the KPC laboratory at Sangatta. This is in addition to another site laboratory which is operated by Sucofindo – Indonesia’s largest superintending company which handles monitors the quality of arounfd 70% of local coal production. Sucofindo is installing CCLAS into all of it’s analytical laboratories throughout Indonesia.

The MineTrak software, an intergated stockpile management system will be installed at Sengatta and Bengalon and will include the following modules:

·         Mine Source & Overburden Management

·         Stockpile & Inventory Management (including FIFO stockpile modeling of the 13km Overland Conveyor)

·         Customer & Contract Management

·         Barge & Shipment Management

·         Port Handling & Vessel Loading

·         Invoicing & Revenues/Cost Forecasts

·         Equipment Downtime Management

·         Production Planning

·         Shipment Blending

·         Management Dashboard & Reporting Modules

In addition, the KPC implementation of MineTrak will include a number interfaces to 3rd party software system such as Minex Mine Planning Software, Modular Mining Truck Dispatch System, Siemens’ WinCC SCADA System and Mincom’s Ellipse ERP System.

Sangatta is the larger of the two operations. The Tanjung Bara Coal Terminal (TBCT) currently exports some 32 Mt of coals annually, with plans to expand to a 50 Mt operation by 2007.  A recent landmark of the KPC Operations is the arrival of an offshore loader, to be used as a floating transfer station (FTS) for coals from barges to ships anchored at the Bengalon or the Tanjung Bara Port.  The FTS would enable KPC to load vessels up to 80,000 DWT.

With the new Barging Module, the MineTrak Software will be used to schedule barge service trips to the FTS for loading to the vessels, and control the loading and unloading of barges, including draft surveying.

The enhanced Contract Management & the newly developed Invoicing Module within MineTrak will replace the system of spreadsheets and in-house developed small databases which KPC has used to date for the management of coal movements.

The implementation of CCLAS has started and is due to go live in November 2005. MineTrak will be due for completion during 2006. http://www.comlabs.com.au
