Lab Automation Europe conference to examine novel technologies for drug discovery
Expert-led conference to run alongside IBLA 2005
A prestigious 2-day international conference exploring the hottest topics in the lab automation industry today will again be allied to IBLA 2005 (15-16 November, Olympia, London). The expert-led Lab Automation Europe 2005 conference will bring together scientists, luminaries and respected academics from some of the world’s most innovative companies and organisations in the drug discovery arena. This conference will provide a key forum for the examination of the latest enabling automation technologies and applications currently, or soon to be, facilitating the drug discovery process.
Entitled ‘Lab Automation: From Efficiency to Effectiveness’, the conference’s comprehensive programme for 2005 has been developed by a Scientific Steering Committee which has drawn upon its considerable knowledge of key topics and issues in lab automation. Sessions are designed to address the needs of both specialists and those looking for an overview of automation. Each will be chaired by a prominent figure and followed by a panel discussion and open forum for scientific debate.
Day one, focusing on ‘Reviewing Screening Efficiency’, will be introduced by keynote speaker and screening expert Paul England of Proxara discussing “Effective Screening – does it exist and how can we achieve it?”. Further presentations will be given by both users and technology providers, including Ken Murray (GSK), Mike Tarbit (Inpharmatica) and Lorenz Mayr (Novartis). The second day will provide an insight into ‘Effective Hit to Lead’, with a keynote speech to be given by Mark Beggs of The Automation Partnership. This will examine alternative approaches to optimise interactions between multiple groups involved in a drug discovery campaign.
To give the next generation of scientists an opportunity to gain valuable insight into the drug discovery technologies of tomorrow directly from prominent scientists actively working in the field, exhibition organisers (IIR) will be sponsoring 50 free places for students. All applications for the 50 free one-day student passes will be considered on merit by the Scientific Steering Committee.
“With increasing pressure on the drug discovery industry to become more streamlined and efficient many new technologies and strategies are evolving aimed at increasing productivity and effectiveness,” said Steve Jordan, Global Head of Chemistry for Biotage and chair of the conference’s scientific committee. “The aim of Lab Automation Europe 2005 is to highlight some of these emerging technologies and to examine how they have been applied, through speakers who are leaders in their fields. Attendees should expect to gain an insight into major new advances in the industry and an understanding of how the application of these new technologies and strategies can improve the overall effectiveness of drug discovery.”
