LabKey Software Joins BioIT Alliance

SEATTLE, Washington – September 18, 2008 – LabKey Software, a leading provider of open source software that enables teams of researchers to pursue large-scale, collaborative projects, announced it has joined the Microsoft BioIT Alliance. The BioIT Alliance is an association of life science organizations and informatics companies whose focus is to enhance collaboration and accelerate the pace of drug and vaccine discovery and development.

“We see two strong trends in biomedical research, data dependence and collaboration,” said Peter Hussey, a founding partner at LabKey Software. “The diversity of diagnostic technologies and laboratory instruments presents researchers with the daunting task of managing and integrating the data.” Hussey adds, “We look forward to working with other BioIT Alliance members who share our belief that well-designed and well-executed information systems can make a huge difference in the success of highly collaborative research projects.”

“We are very pleased to welcome LabKey Software to the BioIT Alliance,” said Rudy Potenzone, Worldwide Industry Technology Strategist for Pharmaceuticals at Microsoft and BioIT Alliance Coordinator. “Their commitment to providing solutions that enable teams of researchers to pursue large-scale scientific discovery projects – coupled with their world-class experience in deploying, enhancing and supporting complex IT systems for consortia-based research – complements the capabilities of other Alliance members.”

The BioIT Alliance is designed to enable collaboration among organizations in the life sciences field in order to shorten the time between discovery of new biological data and the application of that knowledge to human health through the development of better drugs and vaccines. With funding agencies demanding broader collaboration and data sharing, LabKey is well-positioned to deliver solutions to meet these challenges through web applications backed by robust relational databases like Microsoft SQL Server.
