LIMS Administrator

Reporting to the IT Manager at Head Office in Blackburn, this position will be responsible for coordinating and managing LIMS projects, liaising with Global IT and supporting external and internal customers on the Silliker LabWare LIMS application. Provide support to users on the documentation, development, verification and delivery of solutions to LabWare LIMS. Investigate, test, and recommend software solutions for existing or proposed processes.
Key Responsibilities include
- Provide operational and technical support to Mérieux Nutrisciences in the development of enhancements for LabWare (LIMS) application and associated applications.
- Identify and document user requirements to investigate, evaluate, select, document, validate enhancements to LabWare (LIMS) and associated applications.
- Manage and develop laboratory and administration staff skills for the correct use of the LIMS.
- Provide day to day LIMS support related to Microbiology and Chemistry analysis codes.
- Prepare design specification documents for LIMS configuration
- Create LIMS codes according to standard company guidelines.
- Perform pilot testing of LIMS codes and set validation criteria for LIMS code validations.
- Liaise for preparation and execution of LIMS validation protocols for new or modified methods.
- Maintain reports for all existing and new project requests to ensure all relevant parties are informed of progress status and any issues for enhancements of application.
- Recommend solutions for LabWare (LIMS) application to ensure projects are completed on-time and the customer is satisfied.
- Maintain knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) that is required to complete job responsibilities.
- Support corporate quality and improvement process (TQM).
- Perform other duties as needed.
To succeed in this role you will have
- Tertiary qualifications in a Computer Science
- A minimum of 2 years of IT systems configuration and support experience
- Scientific discipline (Chemistry or Microbiology) or equivalent experience in a laboratory setting.
- Experience in building SQL queries, database programming, optimization and fine tuning is preferred.
- Experience applying knowledge of laboratory workflow and Quality Control principles preferred.
- Familiarity with industry standard scientific instruments will be a plus
- Demonstrated knowledge of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) -ideally LabWare.
- Strong working knowledge of Microbiology and Chemistry procedures and terminology
- Demonstrated understanding of ISO Quality System
- Coding experience with good general IT apps aptitude to be able to fulfil wider functionality to support other digital applications.
- High attention to detail and experience with the use of complicated mathematical formulae.
- Proven ability to understand, evaluate and document LIMS user work functions and requirements, and convert these into solutions or process enhancements.
- A strong ability to quickly grasp complex processes combined with a tenacity to diagnose root causes where cause and effect is not always apparent
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to effectively network and liaise within and external to the organisation.
- Effective time management, project management and problem solving skills.
