Linguamatics Integrates ChemAxon Technology to Provide Enhanced Chemical

(April 23 2009, Cambridge, UK)–Linguamatics, a leader in enterprise text mining for the life science and other markets, today announced a partnership with ChemAxon, a leading provider of cheminformatics software, which has seen the integration of ChemAxon’s substructure and structure similarity search capabilities into the I2E semantic knowledge-discovery platform. This technology integration addresses the problem of identifying key facts and relationships from text documents for structurally-similar chemical compounds. Demonstrated for the first time next week at the Bio-IT World Conference & Expo ‘09, Boston, USA, this exciting new capability will be available in the upcoming I2E 3.1 release.

The provision of chemical structure similarity and substructure-enabled text mining enhances I2E’s existing ontology-based compound searching. Users can query for chemical compounds in text documents, examine relevant facts and relationships, and visualize the hits. The ability to combine structure mining with other textual and numeric information adds significant value for a range of applications such as lead identification, safety/tox, chemogenomics, and patent analysis.

“Text mining has become a core capability in pharmaceutical R&D and our customers want to answer business-critical questions that cross traditional information silos,” said Roger Hale, COO and Co-founder of Linguamatics. “I2E is already capable of extracting high quality textual and numeric information. Combining with ChemAxon’s chemical expertise has enabled us to add yet another dimension to I2E’s agile text mining across life science data sources.”

“Our goal is to enable chemical information to be leveraged however it is expressed,” commented Alex Drijver, CEO of ChemAxon. “Working with Linguamatics on this implementation has been fast and rewarding, and will provide a significant advantage for researchers who gain more insight from their data.”

The new chemistry capability will be demonstrated at Bio-IT World ‘09,  Boston, April 27-29, Linguamatics Booth no. 315, ChemAxon Booth no. 312.

ABOUT LINGUAMATICS
Linguamatics helps organizations to maximize the value derived from information resources through effective deployment of innovative natural language processing (NLP) based technology. The versatile interactive information extraction system, I2E, helps organizations to do much more than simply cope with vast quantities of information. Its unique combination of search and text mining helps organizations to turn this information into a competitive advantage. From life sciences and healthcare to business intelligence, from media analysis to security, users mine large collections of documents, extracting relevant facts, relationships and quantitative data from content such as scientific papers, news feeds, patents, or internal reports. Linguamatics has a rapidly growing user community with I2E deployed at most top-10 pharma companies. The company was founded in 2001, and is based in Cambridge, UK.
