LogiLabPRO an Instrument Interfacing and Archival Solution from Regulatory Perspective

Scenario

Data generated by instruments like balance, titrator (RS232) or Spectroscopy, GC, HPLC (PC-Based) are either collected using insecure applications,

Undergo calculations based on open systems (like Excel®) or stored as printed reports and results are entered manually into other applications like LIMS.

These systems raise the issue of authenticity of data and pose a problem from regulatory perspective. Labs with legacy PC based instruments are forced to go in for new hardware and software, which can solve compliance issues. LogiLabPRO is a solution, which was designed to address these issues and provide an economical and viable solution to manage compliance.

Need of the Hour

A generic interfacing solution without device specific drivers, an identity for the data captured, a secure and controlled data capture environment, Parsing and extraction of data of interest, capture and storage of raw data and link to the result extracted, secure industrial strength database as backend, seamless connectivity with other systems

Overview

LogiLabPRO has been designed principally as an instrument interfacing solution to LIMS, with a secure database (Oracle® / MS-SQL Server®) as backend. LogiLab will address the needs to interface all analytical laboratory instruments with LIMS and can be used as a remediation solution for existing systems, which are not fully compliant.

LogiLabPRO can be used as a front end tool to collect data from instruments and instrument-software generated files, parse the data, display it in user designed spreadsheets, store raw and other relevant data within the database, perform test-driven calculations, offer final results to LIMS in a secure environment. LogiLabPRO is a client / server application with a “fat-client” and the database will reside in a central intranet server.

Work Flow

LogiLabPRO addresses basically 2 important scenarios prevalent in labs. One is a RS-232 instrument and the PC-based instrument (file).

RS-232 Instruments

Data from RS-232 instruments are captured as and when they are transmitted with SampleID information. The original non-parsed data is always stored for each SampleID.

PC-based instrument

Instrument generated ASCII report files are parsed and data of interest from these report files is extracted by setting up a parser, the result of parser is a set of fields (instrument data fields), The parser provides the identity’ for the data generated by the instrument called as ‘field’. Fields can be liberally used to design spreadsheets where in the fields when placed will act as locations for capturing and displaying the data collected from instruments.

The key technology here is to identify and extract data as fields, which are storable in a relational database. The original data is captured and made available for future editing and all versions of data are maintained within the database.

Beyond Interfacing…

Document Management

LogiLabPRO has a component called as ‘CFR wrap service’, which is used for document management. The wrap service monitors instrument application paths for user specified file types and stores the files as BLOBs within the database.

Graphical Viewers

LogiLabPRO has built-in data viewers like AIA format chromatographic data viewer, SPC format spectral viewer. LogiLabPRO can also be configured to launch respective viewers from within the application to view data of specific format.

Reporting

LogiLabPRO has a built-in spreadsheet reporting tools and also has Crystal Reports® viewer component within the application.

Seamless Connectivity

LogiLabPRO offers an integrated development environment similar to VBA tool, which enables writing code within LogiLabPRO for seamless link between LogiLabPRO database and any third party database like LIMS/ERP.

Advantages

  • Client / Server architecture with a secure database as backend
  • Reduces human transcription error, automates data entry to LIMS / ERP
  • Brings all RS-232 and PC-based instruments within the compliance area
  • Instrument generated flat files are automatically captured and parsed, which improves the authenticity of data.
  • Provides single point viewing and reporting of all analytical data.
  • Seamless connectivity to other database applications like LIMS / ERP.
