Major advances in water quality modeling to feature in Wallingford Software’s InfoWorks RS v7.0

Wallingford Software has announced that v7.0 of InfoWorks RS, due for release before the end of December, will feature major advances in water quality modeling. InfoWorks RS v7.0 will also include improvements to long section functionality and data analysis.

InfoWorks RS is an integrated software solution for simulating flows in rivers, in channels and on floodplains.

Combining the advanced ISIS flow simulation engine, geographical analysis and a relational database within a single environment, InfoWorks RS integrates survey and time-series data with detailed and accurate modeling. As a result InfoWorks RS allows planners and engineers to carry out fast and precise simulations of the key elements of river and channel systems.

InfoWorks RS v7.0 will include several significant enhancements for water quality modeling including the incorporation of the following water quality processes InfoWorks: Adsorbed Phosphorus, Benthic Algae, Macrophytes, Phytoplankton, Silicate and effects of Solar Radiation.

“Essentially all these enable RS to be used to simulate the effect of changing flow and water quality regimes on aquatic plant and algae growth”, advises Tyrone Parkinson, Global Product Manager for InfoWorks RS.  “In addition, users can now choose to model Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) or Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) as part of the water quality simulation.  Basically these are different measures of the same parameter but COD is more easily observed so users no longer have to convert from COD to BOD.  Users can now compare the results of more than one water quality simulation using the existing graph and grid comparison tools. You can drag and drop water quality simulations onto the existing setup dialogs and then select any of the modelled water quality parameters for comparison.”

Improvements to long section analysis will enable to users to use functions such as Plot Initial Conditions, Plot Results from Multiple Simulations, use Point and Click Queries and Export to AutoCAD. “These improvements will be very popular with users,” believes Tyrone Parkinson, “and help reinforce InfoWorks RS as the leading software solution for simulating river flows.”

InfoWorks RS includes full solution modeling of open channels, floodplains, embankments and hydraulic structures. Rainfall-runoff simulation is available using both event based and conceptual hydrological methods. Full interactive views of data are available using geographical plan views, sectional view, long sections, spreadsheet and time varying graphical data. The underlying data can be accessed from any graphical or geographical view. Animated presentation of results in geographical plan, long section and cross section views is standard, together with results reporting and analysis using tables and graphs. Full flood-mapping capability is provided based on a sophisticated flood-interpolation model overlaid onto an imported ground model.
