Major Indonesian Laboratory Group Implements Comlabs CCLAS LIMS

Sucofindo Minerals Services provides comprehensive services to the minerals industry. An extensive network of laboratories throughout Indonesia services the Coal, Industrial and Metallic Minerals mining industry since early 1970s.

Sucofindo has a network of dedicated coal laboratories at mine terminals, major ports and adjacent to user facilities.

The first implementation of CCLAS at Sucofindo has been completed in Timika in Papua, Indonesia. Sucofindo Timika employs approximately 60 staff – the core business is from PT Freeport Indonesia who operate one of the world’s largest Copper/Gold mines at Grasberg.

The laboratory consists of various sections including, Sample Preparation, Fire Assay, Electro-Gravimetry, AAS, Environmental and Pest Control. A variety of samples are assayed for Cu, Au and other base metals – the samples include:

o        Drill core

o        Dewatering plant/port operations

o        Ship loading

o        Shipment settlement

o        Underground QC

o        Metallurgical QC

o        Environmental

o        Ad hoc samples, pest control spraying and fogging

Before CCLAS was implemented, all samples were entered into an in-house developed LIMS (MS Access based) that allowed for sample counting and invoicing.

CCLASEL v1.3 was installed with custom configuration to maximise the benefits.

Sample registration is done by either the standard CCLAS interface, or by importing a list of samples from the Client, supplied in Excel format.

All analytical balances have been interfaced using the serial interface, whilst the AAS instruments were interfaced using network file transfer.

The CCLAS Task Scheduler is used extensively to automate processes including:

o        Load data from AAS

o        Update consumable usage

o        Create balance calibration jobs

o        Archive old jobs and archives

o        Create and print daily status report

o        Create data reports (CSV files) for reported jobs

o        Export Client Standard data to Historian table

CCLAS QC utilities are used to display QC and Product data in both graphical and report format.

Calibration jobs are created for each active balance daily and the balances are locked out of use until such time that a valid calibration is recorded. The calibration information is stored in the audit trail of the Laboratory Maintenance module.

The new CCLAS Dashboard and Report Manager modules have been implemented allowing Corporate access to KPI and Monthly Reporting data via a WAN.
