Major Players Set Agenda for Future of Informatics at Laboratory Informatics 2006 Conference in San Diego

Thought leaders from foremost pharma and biotech organizations will meet in San Diego, California at Laboratory Informatics 2006 (LI 2006) to be held from January 31th to February 2nd, 2006. LI 2006 is ground zero for scientists, lab managers, IT professionals and executives interested in the issues, challenges and advancements informatics brings to drug discovery, development and manufacturing.

The theme of the conference is transforming analytical data from information to knowledge. Eminent speakers from Locus Pharmaceuticals, Johnson & Johnson PRD and GlaxoSmithKline will keynote. Presenters from Roche, Schering-Plough Corporation, Eli Lilly & Co., Wyeth, General Mills, among others, will deliver case studies, hands-on workshops and product demonstrations covering two tracks: discovery and development and QA/QC.

“Laboratory Informatics 2006 is unique from other informatics events,” said Antony N. Davies, LI 2006 co-chair and senior marketing manager, Informatics at Waters Corporation. “It emphasizes applications and lessons learned and addresses multiple interest levels. For example, the program targets scientists and IT professionals looking for technical information to researchers more concerned about the process of executing an informatics deployment to the role informatics will play in emerging markets, “ he stated. Mr. Davies is co-chairing the conference with Mohan Cashyap, Associate Director, Preclinical IT, Strategy & Consulting, at GlaxoSmithKline.

In addition, an ELN Pre-Conference Summit on January 30th features a full-day session on the planning and deployment of electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) software. Attendees will walk away with a deeper understanding of how to select, design and implement an ELN strategy and how to manage organizational and behavioral changes during the transition from a paper-based notebook operation to an electronic one.

Waters Corporation is a major sponsor of Laboratory Informatics 2006.

Informatics or Information Science is concerned with creating, structuring, storing, retrieving and distributing information. Informatics software captures, indexes and archives the full spectrum of data generated by observations and analytical analysis. It applies to all life sciences disciplines and data-related functions — from vial to trial to aisle. Informatics can reduce the mounting costs associated with manual data-entry operations and paper-based storage. It also facilitates scientific collaboration, which helps drive innovation and improve laboratory productivity. Informatics also advances compliance with regulatory agencies and is an important technology to leverage when protecting intellectual property during patent litigation.
