Summary 
Manages the daily operations of the department or assigned area/function to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational objectives. This position will focus on the Core Section of the laboratory.  This is a 24/7 operations in automated chemistry/imunochemistry, blood gases, hematology, urinalysis flow cytometry.  They will be managing a staff of over 60 professionals.  This lab complete over 2 million tests per year.

Job duties 

  • Assists with developing specific departmental goals, standards, and objectives which directly support the strategic plan and vision of the organization. 
  • Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management.
  • Performs and oversees scheduling, recruitment, payroll, and student engagements. 
  • Monitors departmental budgets, regulatory compliance, departmental contracts and vendor relations. 
  • Determines and justifies needs for systems/equipment/supplies purchases, monitors usage, and oversees proper working order and/or stock supplies. 
  • Assesses the quality of services delivered and coordinates services with staff, medical offices, and external laboratories. 
  • Acts as Director in their absence

Requirements 

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and graduate of an accredited Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist program.
  • 2 years related experience with 1 year supervisory
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) or as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or categorical ASCP certification in a laboratory specialty/subspecialty as applicable to job responsibilities. State licensure if required by law.

  • Familiarity with Beckman automation and chemistry
  • Sysmex Hematology
  • Beaker LIS
