ManTech Donates NetWitness Software to ”SEARCH” – Non-Profit Organization Dedicated to Improving the Criminal Justice System

ManTech International Corporation (Nasdaq:MANT), a leading provider of innovative technologies and solutions focused on mission-critical national security programs for the Department of Defense, the Intelligence Community, the Department of State, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security and other U.S. federal government customers announced today that it has donated 40 perpetual licenses of its NetWitness(R) network forensics analysis software to SEARCH, The National Consortium for Justice Information Statistics. SEARCH is a highly regarded, nonprofit organization that helps state and local justice agencies with their information and identification technology needs through effective planning, high tech crimes investigation training and criminal history policy. SEARCH will provide the software licenses to their students, state and local law enforcement personnel, who will use the software to simulate a field environment and test their ability to trace Internet protocols and connections to individual computers.

“NetWitness provides the best presentation of network data I’ve seen,” said Fred Cotton, computer training specialist at SEARCH. “Looking at raw network data can be quite intimidating to law enforcement professionals. The clarity that NetWitness offers them will lead to a better understanding of the traffic.”

“Officers new to cyber forensics investigations and dealing with electronic evidence will benefit from training with NetWitness,” said Robert A. Coleman, President and Chief Operating Officer, ManTech International Corporation. “SEARCH training courses are designed to teach high-tech investigators the skills they need to stay ahead of criminals who are increasingly turning to the Internet, and NetWitness is one of the most robust and easy-to-use network analysis tools on the market.”

NetWitness gives law enforcement, government agencies or any other organization the ability to quickly investigate and prosecute Internet crimes. It forensically collects and analyzes data so that network events – such as emails, instant messaging, audio, etc. – can be easily reviewed. NetWitness 5.0, the most recent release of the software, has expanded capabilities to scale with growing network speeds, as well as new capabilities to monitor some of the more popular Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies. NetWitness is unique because it was designed specifically for analysts and investigators and it’s easy to use. NetWitness also leads the market in its ability to reconstruct VoIP – a growing threat, and its ability to integrate geo-positioning of IP addresses through its GeoLookup(TM) service.

Unlike recent entries in the cyber forensics market which focus exclusively at data capture, NetWitness emphasizes the analytical utility of the data. NetWitness translates the captured data, and puts the network, application, and content layers into a dense descriptive model that describes who did what, when and how. This patent-pending model feeds advanced analytics which enable analysts and investigators to quickly and effectively interrogate the model for violations of policy and expected behaviors, for vetting of suspicions, or for pre-event and post-event incident response investigation.

In June 2004, NetWitness received very high marks in a product review from SC Magazine, the longest running and most widely distributed information security magazine. SC Magazine said that NetWitness “is more than capable of handling the volume of information generated by large networks,” and that it has “excellent data collection and analysis capabilities.”

On a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest, NetWitness received a 4 or 5 in features, ease of use, performance, documentation, support and overall rating.
