Materials Studio(R) Software Moves Into Informatics

SAN DIEGO, CA, March 25 2003

Accelrys, a wholly owned subsidiary of Pharmacopeia, Inc. (NASDAQ: PCOP), today announced the introduction of materials informatics capabilities to its Materials Studio product line, with the release of MS FAST, a software toolkit supporting formulations development.

MS FAST software will aid formulation design in industries such as cosmetics, personal care, and pharmaceuticals. The software will empower organizations to make a more efficient use of available information in the shortest possible design cycle, with the aim of producing a product with optimum adherence to customer and market requirements.

The MS FAST product is unique in its integration of capabilities spanning the entire formulation design process, from initial concept through experiment design to modeling and optimization.

The MS FAST component being released today is FAST Formulations Design System (FDS), which consists of an Oracle(R) database and associated application modules. It streamlines the data, information, and knowledge flow necessary to successfully formulate or re-formulate products such as skin creams, shampoos, paints, lubricants, and adhesives.

Rhodia HPCII has chosen Accelrys’ FAST Formulation Design System to manage its product formulation. Rhodia will pilot the software in its locations in Aubervilliers, France and Cranberry, NJ, USA.

“Rhodia is committed to accelerating the pace of its product development, and we expect that FAST will help to increase the efficiency of our formulation process,” says Dr. Louis Vouvelle, Vice President R&D of Rhodia HPCII. “We chose the FAST system because it will help our product developers to collaborate across multiple sites.”
