Mathsoft and National Instruments provide advanced joint calculation and measurement solutions

Mathsoft®, the leader in calculation management, announced today the integration of its Mathcad software with the National Instruments LabVIEW graphical development environment to provide advanced joint calculation and measurement solutions. The integration will create an end-to-end design, measurement, analysis and reporting environment that will help engineers more efficiently, accurately and intelligently execute their product development work.

Engineers will be able to use Mathsoft’s Mathcad® calculation software to trigger data capture and measurement in National Instruments LabVIEW, which can then automatically export values back to Mathcad for further calculation, processing or reporting. The integrated products make it easy to test lab data against mathematical models. Users will enable the sharing of LabVIEW results with Mathcad from a drop down menu item directly in the LabVIEW user interface.

The integration builds upon the strategic alliance and collaborative relationship between the companies that began in 2003, and represents a significant step forward for Mathsoft and National Instruments’ mutual customers. “Because of the open architecture of the NI LabVIEW graphical development environment, engineers and scientists can more easily integrate their acquisition applications with advanced Mathcad mathematics and analysis,” said Greg Wempe, NI LabVIEW product marketing manager. “Setup, integration and configuration will require no scripting or coding, helping save time and increase productivity.”

NI LabVIEW is a graphical development environment for creating flexible and scalable test, control and design applications rapidly and at minimal cost. With LabVIEW, engineers and scientists interface with real-world signals, analyze data for meaningful information, and share results and applications.

Mathcad is a comprehensive design environment that enables engineers to simultaneously explore, calculate and document all of their mathematical formulas and calculations during the design phase of a product. Engineers can combine formulas, text and interactive graphics in a single worksheet via an intuitive “whiteboard” interface. Mathcad is ideal for experimenting with design parameters and analyzing measurement data. These capabilities have made Mathcad the choice of two million engineers throughout the world, of which more than 200,000 use National Instruments software.

“Many synergies exist in the processes of testing, measurement, control, analysis and engineering calculation,” said Mathsoft director of business development Lisa-Jean Clifford. “Bringing them together in a combined solution makes work quicker, easier and more accurate for professional engineers. This collaboration offers our mutual customers extended engineering solutions and unleashes powerful Mathcad capabilities.”

Mathsoft and National Instruments will launch their new integration solution at NIWeek, National Instruments annual user conference taking place in Austin, Texas Aug. 16-18, 2005. Mathsoft is a National Instruments Alliance Partner.

Engineers and scientists can learn more about integrating Mathcad and LabVIEW and download the integration toolkit today at no cost by contacting Lisa-Jean Clifford of Mathsoft at 617-444-8046 or via email at lclifford@mathsoft.com .
