Me thinks ye protests too much…

Me thinks ye protests too much…

by Ephraim Gadsby – contributing author

About 3 to 4 months ago, I wrote an article entitled: “The King is Dead, Long live the King”.  Today I read a rebuttal to that article from the servant of the old King.  I found the article lively and entertaining to say the least but I do believe it went a little over the top in the defense of the old King.  Me thinks ye protests too much.

You can read my article at the following link: The King is Dead, Long Live the King.

You can read the rebuttal article entitled “Gimme a Break” in the January 2005 edition of Scientific Computing Magazine or wait for it to arive by snail mail if you receive a printed version.

The fact that it has taken nearly 4 months for a comment to be published as a response to my article, is rather humorous or at the least ironic and helps prove the point about outdated print media (the old King).  In fact, I have not even received my printed version of the magazine yet but actually found the author’s rebuttal on his magazine’s web site and I am now writing and publishing my comments to his article before I even get the magazine.  This is analogous to someone reading a letter to me over the phone, that they are sending me by way of the Pony Express.  The mailed letter has become irrelevant due to the passage of time.

My comments in this article are not meant to malign the “Gimme a break” author or the magazine he serves.  Quite the contrary, I really like the articles written by that author.  They are humorous with the usual format of funny anecdotes.  In the case of the author’s rebuttal article titled “Gimme a break”, please take the time to read the article in full.  The article is relevant to this article and to my previously published article.  The author starts with an anecdote about a smart guy who gives a speech with no shoes on and moves into roasting coffee beans but finally settles down, at about the 8th paragraph or so and he proceeds to defend his old King.

I do wish he had written his remarks and comments to my original article in the comment fields that were provided on the article. It is rather a pain to have to point readers to a completely different web site in order to see what the author has to say about my article.  Then again, all that may do is fuel the fiery death of the old King by proving the point about interactive content on the Internet versus the one way street of the old print media.

By the way, the author says that I am employed by LIMSfinder.com.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  I do not get paid to write or get paid in any way by LIMSfinder.  I like to write and I write for free and for fun and this site is about the only free site for this industry that I can use for that forum and do it in real time.  I just can’t do that in print media.  Anyway, from my knoweldge of LIMSfinder, anyone can apply to write articles freely as a contributing author just as I do.  You simply must behave and live by the golden rule.  Also, a comment to the author at this point…  Please do not call me “Dude”.  I know you meant the term to be derogatory and you really should keep your articles at an adult level.

Your voice counts and your opinions are just as worthy as any print media author’s opinions.  This is the blessing and the curse of the Internet but I believe that this sites readers are intelligent enough to make up their own minds, to have approving or opposing opinions and can decide for themselves how they want their information.  My opinions on print media are just that, my opinion.  I welcome opposing opinions, it raises the profile of this new media and evereyone benefits.

I truly want to thank the author of the “Gimme a break” article for helping to promote the “New Media” via the “Old Media”.  You know what they say…  The only thing worse than being talked bad about, is not being talked about at all”.

Sincerely,
