MedCentral Health System Goes Live on Soarian Health Information Solution from Siemens

Siemens Medical Solutions and MedCentral Health System of Mansfield, Ohio, announce that MedCentral has recently gone live on Soarian(R), Siemens new generation health information solution. MedCentral, a multi-entity healthcare facility, implemented Soarian Clinical Access and Common Clinicals, as well as Siemens ancillary systems including NOVIUS(R) Lab, NOVIUS Radiology, Siemens Pharmacy and Siemens OPENLink(TM) simultaneously across the entire system. More than 250 MedCentral physicians and 1,500 clinicians will have access to the systems, including remote access to Soarian where indicated.

Clinical workflow enhancements that MedCentral is experiencing as a result of Soarian include improved clinical documentation and reduced administrative paperwork and redundant documentation. In addition, MedCentral installed a wireless network utilizing tablet PCs and wireless carts. MedCentral’s future plans include implementing additional Soarian components and Siemens Med Administration Check(TM) application, which uses bar code technology to alert nurses to potential medication administration errors.

“Soarian allows us to leverage technology to provide timely and efficient patient care,” commented James E. Meyer, president and CEO of MedCentral. “The innovative design of the system reflects our ‘ExpertCare’ vision. Soarian helps us to better manage our processes so that our physicians, nurses and other clinicians can spend more time at the bedside.”

“Having customers tell us that this system truly helps them manage and coordinate the processes of healthcare underscores the value of Soarian’s workflow-oriented design,” said Thomas Miller, president, IT division, Siemens Medical Solutions. “Unlike any other solution on the market, Soarian represents a quantum leap in healthcare IT by helping to orchestrate the many simultaneous and complex processes of healthcare.”

Soarian integrates clinical, financial, diagnostic and administrative processes to support patient-centered care. The solution is distinguished by three innovative characteristics: it is workflow-engineered to synchronize processes across the health enterprise; its smart user interface is designed to accommodate tasks based on the roles of individual users; and it has embedded analytics that empower users to proactively monitor and measure an enterprise’s performance, and then act on those conclusions. Additionally, bringing together images and data seamlessly from a variety of medical modalities in one location, Soarian helps facilitate more informed decision-making–leading to improved care delivery, increased staff satisfaction, and more efficient business practices.
