Medical Technologist
ProMedica has multiple openings across our laboratory locations in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Full time, part time, per diem, and supervisory positions available in our Microbiology and Hematology labs.
Position Summary:
The role of the medical technologist is an integral part for nearly every medical diagnosis and is increasingly in demand as the number of patients increase. The position is ideal for candidates that are in search of roles involving laboratory testing, analyzing results, leadership roles, and continued personal growth. A great position for those analytical thinkers that want to make a real difference in patients’ lives.
As a medical lab scientist at ProMedica, you will play an important role in the detection, diagnosis and treatment of many diseases. Aided by advanced technology, you will perform and analyze critical lab tests. You will also confirm test results and help develop data that may be used by a physician to determine the presence, extent and cause of a disease. It is estimated that 70-80% of all medical decisions are made based on the results of laboratory tests.
With increasing automation and the use of computer technologies, the work of medical lab scientists has become less hands-on and more analytical. Areas of specialization include biomedical research and development, assistive reproductive technology, organ transplantation, genetic testing, infection control, health information management and forensic testing.
Job Requirements
- MT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) or equivalent.
- Previous clinical experience.
- Must fulfill all requisites of career ladder criteria for Technologist I.
- Tolerate exposure to disease bearing specimens, odorous chemicals, carcinogens, mutagens, low-level radiation, electrical hazards and flammable liquids.
- Ability to differentiate between colors.
- Ability to occasionally move, lift and/or carry light weight materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds up to 5% of the time.
- Ability to input and retrieve information from computer.
