MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIST
3rd shift (night) Opportunities available. Full-time and part-time with every other weekend commitment.
Positions available at Woodstock, McHenry and Huntley.
Under the general supervision of a Lab Supervisor and/or Coordinator, the professional we select for this vital role will perform various laboratory tasks in one or more sections of the laboratory to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Following established policies and procedures, this individual will analyze, interpret, and ensure the accuracy of test results, repeat tests yielding abnormal/atypical results, and notify appropriate personnel as needed.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Receiving written and verbal requisitions from physicians for laboratory tests and making preparations by adjusting equipment and preparing/arranging reagents.
- Obtaining lab specimens; and conducting standard hematological procedures, chemical analysis on body fluids, routine and specialized blood tests to type and cross-match blood, and isolation of microorganisms from a variety of clinical specimens.
- Recording and preparing test-result reports.
- Calculating and recording known control values on technical instruments to ensure reliability and accuracy of report results.
- Participating in the development and implementation of lab testing procedures in conjunction with senior-level personnel.
- Drawing patient blood samples according to established procedures.
- Maintaining current knowledge of trends and developments in the field.
Required:
- Associate's degree in medical technology for Medical Lab Technician level
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology for Medical Technologist and Lab Science Technician levels
- One year of supervised internship.
- Four or more years of experience as a professional medical technician.
- Certification by the Board of Registry of American Society of Clinical Pathologists
- Strong interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Exceptional detail orientation.
- 6-12 months of on the job experience preferred.
