MerseyBIO Chooses Open Text’s Livelink ECM for Bio Tech Network

Open Text(TM) Corporation (NASDAQ:OTEX)(TSX:OTC), the leading independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software, said today that MerseyBIO has adopted Open Text’s Livelink ECM software to improve processes, strategic planning and collaboration between biotechnology companies, investors and public bodies in the UK.

MerseyBIO, based at the University of Liverpool, UK, supports the development of local life-sciences start-ups and raises the profile of Liverpool as a leading life sciences location. MerseyBIO ( www.merseybio.com ) provides laboratory and associated office space for up to 15 biotechnology companies, and provides in-house business consulting and support services.

For the first time in the UK, small biotechnology companies and other MerseyBIO members can manage information and processes, and share knowledge online to accelerate research and business development. The system, called esymbio(TM), streamlines internal processes to improve business planning, research coordination and the management of projects such as grant applications and requests for proposals. Livelink ECM also helps to deliver dynamic collaboration and knowledge sharing between individuals, teams and organizations.

The system’s built-in access privileges enhance personalized information, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and rapid identification of appropriate partners to complete projects and service information needs. This reduces online research time and improves communications between members.

Dr. Geoff Wainwright, MerseyBio Incubator Manager said: “esymbio supports the development of an innovative and growing biotechnology sector – it’s almost like a primary meeting point for the great and the good in regional biotechnology. Open Text’s Livelink ECM plays a key role in enabling us to use esymbio to support medical and biotech development.”

Professor David Hornby, Chief Executive of Combigen Limited said: “esymbio is particularly important in the development of life-changing pharmaceutical products, where close co-operation amongst researchers, commercial organizations and public institutions is vital to success. Livelink ECM has enabled esymbio to bring these different groups together for the first time, encouraging an active exchange of data, ideas, knowledge and experiences.”

Damian Hyland, Vice President of Northern Europe at Open Text, said: “This is a perfect example of how Livelink ECM brings people, processes and information together to solve business problems. MerseyBIO’s esymbio is unique in the way it allows members to identify new partnerships, and develop new project areas by quickly making available the latest information on critical issues in biotechnology.”
