Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Methods Development Analyst to provide support for the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing immune based analytical methods in GCLP environment.  Candidate will also assist in the evaluation of new methodologies provided to the lab from partner laboratories and participate in method development and optimization of in-house methods on automation platform.

  • Perform immunological analysis methods according to the direction provided by the Laboratory Management and the established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Responsible for following the established SOPs to perform immunological testing of human clinical samples and animal study samples in assays such as:Antibody Enzyme Linked Immunosorbant Assay (ELISA), Anti-Drug Antibody Assay, and Viral Neutralization Assays.
  • Assist in the development of new analytical methods including automation of existing lab methods; optimization or improvement of existing lab methods; and investigations to resolve issues regarding problematic existing lab methods.
  • Assist in evaluating new analytical methods provided to lab by partner laboratories.
    • Method optimizations and assurance of ability to be performed in a high through-put platform in the lab testing laboratories.
    • Method improvement or adaptation to lab standards and instrumentation.
  • Responsible for performing testing as scheduled by management, with the flexibility of being able to perform various procedures as called upon.
  • Responsible for reporting potential problems in a proactive manner to management.
  • Perform training for new employees as directed by management.
  • Maintain reagent and equipment supply inventories.
  • Perform assay and instrument QC testing as directed by management.
  • As a technical expert on various methods provide insight into potential ways for method improvement or in the design of investigations.
  • Work with the management to quickly provide resolution to any documentation or testing deficiencies.
  • Work as a member of a team working for a common goal, and be willing to help out others when needed to assure all daily assignments are completed.
  • Become familiar with and assure compliance with Good Clinical Laboratory Procedures (GCLP).
  • Follow established safety related SOPS, to maintain a safe workplace.
  • Participate in laboratory inspections in a technical manner (e.g. physical observation) to verify conformance to applicable SOP and regulatory requirements with regard to internal and external audits.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Position Requirements:

  • A minimum of a BS/BA with 2 – 5+ years of experience or MS with 0 – 2+ years of experience in biological sciences.
  • At least 1 – 3 years of experience in GLP/GCLP testing laboratories including:
    • Experience with immunological methods: Intracellular cytokine staining, ELISPOT, Antibody ELISA, viral neutralization assay, and specimen processing.
    • Experience with assay development and optimization.
    • Experience with tissue culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting and to handle high-throughput environment, as well as ability to work independently and proactively on various projects with minimum supervision.
  • Experience with automation instrument and liquid handlers.
  • Demonstrated strong Windows Office knowledge and skill.Visual Basic programming is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize projects efficiently.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, with strong troubleshooting and problem solving skill.
  • Demonstrated strong mathematical background and knowledge of basic statistical models.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
