Moldflow Corporation Announces Moldflow Plastics Advisers 7.1; Customer-driven Features Expand Analysis Capabilities and Increase User Productivity
Moldflow Corporation (NASDAQ:MFLO), the world leader in software and enabling hardware solutions for optimizing the design and manufacture of plastic products, today announced the immediate availability of Moldflow Plastics Advisers(R) 7.1 (MPA(R) 7.1) software, Moldflow’s easy-to-learn, 3D solids-based, plastics flow simulation product. MPA 7.1 contains new features and enhancements that allow users to obtain greater analysis and results resolution, model and analyze annular hot runners and networked runner systems, visualize surface defects more easily and expand the links to Moldflow Plastics Insight(R) (MPI(R)), Moldflow’s in-depth simulation products. The new features in MPA 7.1 further improve user productivity and continue to demonstrate Moldflow’s leadership in simulation technology for injection-molded plastics.
Key features include:
— Increased Analysis Resolution Option – new option for controlling the balance between analysis speed and resolution – useful when highly detailed results need to be examined such as hot spots in a cooling analysis result.
— Annular Hot Runners and Network Runner System Support – MPA 7.1 now supports annular runners, a common design component of hot runner systems and networked runners, used in certain types of cold runner layouts.
— Enhanced MPI and Moldflow Design Link(R) (MDL(R)) Interfaces – allows users to take advantage of the powerful mesh analysis, creation and repair features of MPI and retain geometric surface information when importing models using MDL, both resulting in more accurate analysis models.
— Material Database Improvements – including over 750 material additions and updates and more direct access to the complete Moldflow material database and associated testing reports.
— New Model and Results Visualization Features – including enhanced visualization of surface defect results such as sink marks, detection and display of feature edges and results smoothing options that allow users to review results in greater detail.
“MPA 7.1 is one of the most feature-rich point releases in the history of Moldflow Plastics Advisers,” said John Pflueger, MPA product line manager. “With these new features and enhancements, professionals designing and manufacturing injection-molded plastic parts have an even stronger set of tools for easily and quickly assessing plastic part manufacturability. MPA 7.1 offers more control over analyses, better tools for visualizing models and model surface defects, a wider range of modeling and analysis options for runner systems and improved interfaces to other Moldflow products.” He added, “The wealth of new features in MPA 7.1 clearly demonstrates Moldflow’s leadership in bringing analysis forward within the design process – when the cost of change is least and the impact on improving manufacturability is greatest.”
Patented Dual Domain(TM) Technology
At the heart of MPA 7.1 is Moldflow’s patented Dual Domain technology, which allows users to work directly with 3-D solid CAD models without the need to create a finite element mesh analysis model. This saves anywhere from hours to days to weeks in model preparation time, meaning more part and mold designs can be evaluated more thoroughly. In addition, MPA is easy to learn and use and does not require extensive training or plastics processing expertise. MPA 7.1 is scalable so that users can upgrade to Moldflow Plastics Insight, Moldflow’s complete suite of high-end analysis modules, or link to Moldflow Manufacturing Solutions(TM) (MMS(TM)) products.
