New Symyx Isentris Products Deliver Greater Decision Support Value

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 13, 2010 – Symyx Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMMX) has announced two new product offerings, Isentris Forms and Isentris Data Miner. Symyx Isentris was initially introduced to provide customers of its market-leading ISIS cheminformatics software a migration path to improved R&D decision support flexibility and productivity. The two new product offerings provide ISIS customers a more flexible, phased migration path to Isentris, and Isentris Forms offers new customers a low-cost, low-risk introduction to Isentris, without a full-scale deployment.

Symyx Isentris improves information access, data analysis, collaboration, reporting and decision making for scientists working with corporate, project and commercial information. New scientific applications built on Isentris deliver improved return on investment because they require lower development costs and result in more powerful, robust applications with longer life expectancy than applications built on ISIS technology. Databases and spreadsheets created in ISIS can be shared in the Isentris environment, and both systems support the same powerful chemistry and chemical representation capabilities.

New Isentris Forms offers scientists enhanced query and browse capabilities, the ability to save, share and re-use search strategies, flexible reporting options, and improved tools for handling reactions and planning chemical syntheses. The Isentris Forms package is easier and faster to deploy than the full Isentris system, enabling researchers to come up to speed quickly with a minimal learning curve.

The new Isentris Data Miner package, which can be added to Isentris Forms, enables organizations to upgrade to the full Isentris system. Isentris Data Miner offers a dynamic approach to exploring, analyzing and reporting information. Highly interactive tabular data presentations, rapid filtering of information, powerful visualization techniques and built-in calculations enable scientists to extract the information they need from multiple sources for use in SAR analyses and cross-experiment reporting of laboratory information.

“In today’s challenging business climate, Symyx is pleased to offer a more flexible, lower cost, fully supported transition pathway to Isentris that meets individual customer needs both from a financial and a resources perspective,” said Dr. Trevor Heritage, president of Symyx’s software business unit. “By taking advantage of our new Isentrisbased solutions, customers can deploy just the Isentris components they need to make better use of information, collaborate more effectively and work more productively in their own unique workplace environments.”

The ability to access Isentris functionality and workflows in two packages, each with its own distinct solutions-based focus, gives R&D organizations the flexibility to add Isentris Forms now and expand the system later to meet additional or more complex informatics requirements using Isentris Data Miner.
