New White Paper Highlights Electronic Laboratory Notebook Benefits and Adoption Considerations

Infotrieve, Inc., today announced the availability of a new white paper entitled “The Case for an Electronic Laboratory Notebook.” The white paper, created specifically to help scientists and R&D managers examine the benefits of investment in an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) system, is freely available online at ( http://www.infotrieve.com/elnsearch/ELN_WhitePaper.pdf ).

“There is a considerable amount of content on the market around the reasons to adopt an ELN solution, much of which is overly generic, complex, or sales-oriented,” said Wes Crews, CEO of Infotrieve. “The Infotrieve ELN white paper was drafted to help professionals in the biopharmaceutical industry more clearly understand ELN benefits and help them identify those issues that may merit further consideration by their particular organization.”

The white paper describes:

— What ELNs are and their advantages versus paper laboratory notebooks

— The difference between cross-disciplinary and specific ELNs

— Knowledge management and efficiency gains provided by ELNs

— Protections for intellectual property afforded by ELNs

The paper also introduces the Infotrieve/ELN and describes how it specifically increases efficiency, manages knowledge, provides IP protection, and conforms to FDA regulations for electronic records management (21 CFR Part 11).

Infotrieve developed its white paper in response to the growing interest in ELNs from the biopharmaceutical industry. According to a recent Infotrieve poll conducted in July-August 2005, more that 90% of the respondents had not implemented an electronic laboratory notebook solution, but 36% have plans to purchase one in the next six months. In addition, more than 60% of respondents reported that they have ELN initiatives underway. Respondents were registered viewers for a recent ELN-related webcast that Infotrieve produced in collaboration with Bio-IT World.
