NI SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW Wins Control Engineering Engineers’ Choice Award

National Instruments today announced that Control Engineering magazine editors and subscribers selected the NI SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW as the winner of the Engineers’ Choice Award in the Motors, Drives and Motion Control category. Recognized by the magazine’s subscribers for its flexibility and advanced set of motion control functions and algorithms, the NI SoftMotion Development Module gives machine builders and OEMs the ability to design customized, reliable motion controllers for any hardware platform.

“Control Engineering editors recognized 40 products covered by the magazine in 2004 as winners of its 2004 Editors’ Choice Awards. The editors selected winners based on three criteria — technological advancement, market impact and service to industry,” said David Greenfield, Control Engineering editorial director. “For the Engineers’ Choice Award, Control Engineering subscribers were asked to select the one Editors’ Choice Award-winning product from each of eight product categories they believed best met the judging criteria. This year, in the Motors, Drives and Motion Control category, subscribers selected the NI SoftMotion Development Module for LabVIEW as the winner.”

With the NI SoftMotion Development Module, machine builders and OEMs can choose their motion control platforms, such as NI CompactRIO reconfigurable control and acquisition systems, Compact FieldPoint embedded control systems and M Series multifunction data acquisition devices, to improve machine performance or lower system costs. The software includes functions for trajectory generation, spine interpolation, position and velocity PID control and encoder implementation in the LabVIEW Real-Time Module and LabVIEW FPGA Module. Whether they require high-precision machines for semiconductor processes or cost-effective systems for common packaging applications, the NI SoftMotion Development Module gives machine builders and OEMs the ability to create customized, reliable motion controllers.

The NI SoftMotion Development Module was one of eight products that received the Engineers’ Choice Award at Control Engineering’s awards reception during National Manufacturing Week 2005. For more information about the NI SoftMotion Development Module, readers can visit www.ni.com/motion .
