Organon Implements TurboWorx’ PowerCloud™ to Accelerate Drug Discovery
Software Platform Enabling Bioinformatics Team To Maximize Compute Resources; Speed Blast, Hmmr And Fasta Processing On Linux Clusters
Burlington, MA — August 12, 2003 — TurboWorx, Inc. today announced that Organon International is successfully utilizing its PowerCloud™ software platform to efficiently utilize and dynamically allocate computing resources. Leveraging PowerCloud on cross-platform systems at its Newhouse, Scotland facility, the global pharmaceutical leader has been able to rapidly process data and computationally-intensive bioinformatics tasks and achieve superior Linux cluster performance at a total lower cost of ownership.
PowerCloud is enabling Organon’s bioinformatics team to logically segment BLAST, HMMR and FASTA databases depending on the combination of sequence analysis requirements and memory available in its Linux cluster environment. “Because PowerCloud uses different principles for parallelization, it is offering us a simple, yet unique and very efficient solution to a common bioinformatics problem – intensive data processing,” said Dr. Vitali Proutski, Bioinformatics team leader, Organon Research Scotland. “With PowerCloud software, we are now able to segment databases and distribute queries across our compute farm to run systematic sequence searches faster and more effectively than ever before.”
A strategic infrastructure software solution with an integrated suite of applications and a web-based interface, PowerCloud is enabling Organon to accelerate common bioinformatics applications by segmenting, processing independently and re-merging the data. TurboWorx’ software is empowering Organon’s Newhouse bioinformatics team to optimize its scientific research and computing resources and achieve an accelerated path to discovery.
Organon’s extensive evaluation of software and hardware offerings validated TurboWorx’ software and approach as an advanced and cost-effective alternative to making a substantial financial commitment to an enterprise server.
“Organon is among our growing European customer base taking advantage of the numerous scientific and business benefits our technology provides,” said Jeffrey Augen, president and CEO of TurboWorx. “We are pleased to be playing an important role in helping the company maintain a competitive advantage in delivering innovative prescription medicines for gynecology, mental health, anesthesia and for cardiovascular disease.”
