Pavilion Technologies Expands Environmental Emissions Monitoring in Europe

Pavilion Technologies, the leader in advanced process control and environmental compliance solutions, is creating a European distribution network for its proven software-based monitoring, data management and control of environmental emissions and greenhouse gases. With Emission Care in the Netherlands and Axess Energi og Miljo in Norway, Pavilion has gained two distribution partners for its environmental solutions.

Within the terms of the contracts, both partners will sell and service Pavilion’s Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS), the Software CEM(TM) for emissions monitoring and Pavilion’s environmental data management system — Envisage(TM) — for real-time performance management, record keeping and reporting. With Software CEM, European customers receive a solution, which monitors emissions significantly more reliably than hardware-based continuous emissions monitoring systems (CEMS) at a fraction of the cost. With Envisage, companies are able to access current emissions rates at any time, comply with European guidelines and get involved in trade with emissions rights.

“We have gained two extremely knowledgeable partners for the distribution of our environmental solutions,” said Paul Reinermann, Director, Environmental and Regulatory Affairs at Pavilion Technologies. “Our PEMS are proven to provide accurate and precise emissions data at considerable cost savings to hardware CEMS and are also faster to install and less prone to failure.”

Emission Care will concentrate primarily on the Dutch market, it specializes in the evaluation of NOx and CO2 emissions produced in power plants and the production of chemicals, steel, cement and glass. Emission Care also provides brokerage services for emission trading through its Internet platform www.emissionexchange.nl .

“Emissions monitoring and trading is a hot topic at the moment,” said Arend Smit, Director of Emission Care. “To be able to keep in line with European Union regulations, companies need to be able to measure and record their emissions accurately and on a continuous basis. Software-based systems such as those of Pavilion Technologies are ideal as they run precisely, automatically and cost effectively.”

Axess Energi og Miljo (Access Energy and Environment — www.aem.no ) distributes Software CEM and Envisage for the monitoring of NOx emissions. The company focuses on the Norwegian market but on request also serves other countries bordering the North Sea and in Scandinavia.

“In 1999, Norway signed the Gothenburg protocol to reduce emissions of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, volatile organic compounds, and ammonia. The country-by-country emission ceilings must be achieved by 2010. Unfortunately, our country lags somewhat behind other European neighbors,” explains Bjorn Haukebo, CEO. “Together with Pavilion, we hope to increase awareness in the Norwegian industry and in politics for emissions trading and monitoring and are thus offering the most cost-effective, accurate solution available.”

Software CEM was the first Predictive Emissions Monitoring System (PEMS) to be approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and has been proven in over 210 installations. On the basis of detailed, up-to-the-minute emissions information, the software allows the control of emissions to be factored into plant automation strategies on a dynamic basis. The software’s neural network-based models provide accurate, non-linear models of emissions, which can be used to predict emissions for any set of operating conditions.

Envisage is a web-based environmental performance management software and is ideal for industries which have to comply with ceilings for waste fuel, industrial effluent and air pollution limitations. Envisage provides accurate information in the proper terms and timeframes of the limitation in real-time to assist companies to perform better both environmentally and economically. Static monitoring systems rely on after the fact data analysis and tedious, offline calculation methodologies. Envisage automates the entire process — from data acquisition and transfer, and calculations through to reporting. Environmental officers are thus able to see the current emissions and compliance status at any time.
