Platform project improves Chemtech expertise

During eight months of intensive work, under the leadership of Petrobras, around 35 Chemtech engineers took part in the CAK (Chemtech – Aker Kvaerner – Kromav), a consortium created to develop the FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) project for the world’s largest deep-water heavy-oil production unit, the FPSO-BR P-57.

This work has improved Chemtech’s expertise in the management and delivery of large scale interdisciplinary projects.  It has involved instrumentation, process, HVAC, telecommunications, and much more.  The project was entirely developed using Brazilian labor and within the national territory.

Chemtech FEED solution – also employed in a pilot plant for heavy-oil processing, in a gas unit in the state of Espírito Santo, in on-shore facilities, and in petrochemical plants/refineries – allows you to evaluate if a plant is worth building, the approximate investment cost, how it will operate, how it should be built, and much more.  It is a hybrid stage between the basic project and the executive/detailed project.

FEED provides a more accurate estimate of the final cost of the enterprise, besides reducing the total time needed for delivery.  “This means anticipating plant start-up, since several time-consuming factors that need to be defined throughout the executive/detailed project are solved in advance with the FEED.  Similarly, some problems are better avoided or solved if they are tackled earlier in the enterprise lifecycle”, says Daniel Moczydlower, Chemtech project manager.
