POH Medical Center Goes Live with Misys CPR System One thousand healthcare professionals are using Misys CPR to improve care delivery following 13-month rapid implementation.

Misys Healthcare Systems, a leader in healthcare information technology, announced today its Misys CPR(tm) enterprise-wide integrated computer-based patient record is live and in use at POH Medical Center, a premier osteopathic teaching hospital, in Pontiac, Mich.

Approximately 1,000 POH Medical Center employees and associates?physicians, residents, medical students, nurses, student nurses, clinicians, IT analysts and clinical and non-clinical support staff?are using Misys CPR across the facility including nine inpatient units and two Emergency Departments at the 328-licensed bed hospital.

During this first phased rollout over 13 months, the healthcare professionals are accessing Misys CPR to electronically communicate and coordinate care throughout the patient’s visit, starting with scheduling, registration, clinical care through discharge.

“Working with Misys Healthcare Systems to implement the Misys CPR system hospital-wide was a gratifying experience,” said Bruce Kelly, C.P.H.I.M.S., chief information officer, POH Medical Center.  “This was one of the best and smoothest system implementations in my 15-year hospital IT career. “POH Medical Center sought a swift deployment in order to replace our clinical system no longer being serviced,” he continued.  “From the initial project kickoff to go live, this 13-month rollout reinforced Misys’ commitment to a rapid implementation that was in our contract and a prerequisite for success.”

According to Kelly, widespread compliance and buy-in from executive hospital leadership and clinical staff were among many reasons behind the successful outcome activating Misys CPR.  “The clinical staff was involved from the onset in the selection of Misys CPR and Misys as vendor of choice as well as the creation of new system patient-centric workflows,” said Kelly. “Executive hospital leadership’s exceptional support led the many clinical and IT decisions necessary for staffing and goal orientation.”

Prior to the system go live, Misys and POH Medical Center analysts performed extensive functional and integrated system testing including ‘mini-mock go lives’ to confirm Misys CPR met hospital requirements. The hospital staff completed a six-week system training program using a specially designed database.

“The ‘mini-mock go lives’ assured department managers that changes to their workflows were intact, building confidence among their staff,” said Kelly. “These preparations established a high degree of confidence among top management for the actual go-live event.”

Steven B. Calkin, D.O., F.A.C.O.I., vice president for medical affairs, POH Medical Center, said, “I agree with Bruce’s assessment as executive champion for this sizeable system project implementation. While one can never be 100 percent confident in managing expectations of a system launch of this scale, the Misys approach worked flawlessly, reinforcing our decision that selecting Misys CPR was the correct one.”

“I’m still waiting for someone to pinch me,” said Patrick Lamberti, president and chief executive officer, POH Medical Center. “I have never experienced a system implementation operate as smoothly as the Misys CPR product.  We endured no major problems at all.  Sure, a few problems were caught along the way, but our support team ? including Misys representatives ? resolved them quickly. I am more than pleased that POH Medical Center chose Misys CPR. We look forward to the solution’s care, safety and workflow benefits expected to advance our hospital operations.”

POH Medical Center chose Misys CPR to achieve their goal of a paperless environment by automating all patient care documentation into a single electronic record. The solution will eliminate workflow redundancies in clinical and business office processes, streamline nursing documentation, and improve multidisciplinary communications.

The community-based teaching facility’s next implementation phase entails expanding Misys CPR to perform computerized physician order entry (CPOE), enhanced nursing documentation and clinical pathways. The facility plans to deploy Misys Data Warehouse(tm), a powerful online data warehouse application that extracts clinical data from Misys CPR to provide outcomes measurement tools for critical data analysis.

“The project of implementing a CPR system is a momentous event for any hospital. POH Medical Center’s high level of commitment, carefully planned rollout and close partnership with Misys set the stage for a successful go live,” said Bob Evola, product director of CPR product line, Misys Healthcare Systems. “POH Medical Center persevered because they kept sight of their goal for a single, unifying system to facilitate the sharing of patient and clinical data enterprise-wide in their quest to continually improve safety and quality of healthcare delivery.”
