Job Title: Medical Technologist
Location: Chicago, IL
Start Date: ASAP
Major Responsibilities:
- Must Have MT or MLT (ASCP)
- Perform laboratory testing while ensuring quality patient care.

Attends and documents the division's required hours of continuing education. Helps instruct students, residents, and new employees. Evaluates their performance within established deadlines.
Troubleshooting & QC Medical Technologist I:
- Performs basic troubleshooting of equipment and processes with minimal assistance, documents action and notifies appropriate personnel, for example, supervisors, of problems all the time.
- Performs required QC procedures and preventive maintenance, including corrective action and documentation, for all procedures and instrumentation.
- Recognizes QC problems or discrepancies and attempts to determine the cause of problem.
- Notifies appropriate supervisor regarding QC problems or discrepancies according to the established procedure.
- Organization of Work Area – Keeps work area neat, clean, organized, and well stocked always.
- Specimen Acceptability and Specimen Processing – Accepts no inappropriate specimens annually.
- Notifies appropriate person of specimens that must be drawn or collected again.
- Labels and processes specimens properly.
- Procedure Complexity – Performs routine procedures efficiently and effectively.
- Turnaround Time Expectations – Meets turnaround time expectations by prioritizing and organizing daily workloads.
- Time Management – Utilizes time effectively.
- Completes work without incurring overtime and at times assists fellow workers to finish daily tasks.
- Special Projects – Accepts and/or volunteers for method evaluations and new procedure development or other special projects and completes them within an agreed upon time frame.
- Participates in procedure implementation when appropriate.
- "Tech-in-Charge" – Acts as "tech-in- charge” for specified periods of time.
- Oversee operations according to departmental guidelines.
- Understands when to defer issues to appropriate personnel, for example a supervisor or director, and does so.
- Report Reviewing and Results Reporting – Reviews computer generated reports at the appropriate time.
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in relevant science and certification (or eligible) from nationally recognized certifying agency.
- Experience: No previous experience required.
- Personal: Interacts effectively with peers, internal and external customers.
- Able to work in fast pace, often stressful, computerized environment.
- Able to lift 10 lbs. and perform repetitive motions.
- Works in laboratory with exposure to potentially infectious materials.
- Employees in this job classification are qualified to perform high complexity testing.
- Employees' education and/or laboratory experience meet the requirements delineated in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act of 1988 (CLIA '88).
