Request for Demos – ACILT LIS

Request for LIMS Demos

The Association of Public Health Laboratories is requesting interested LIMS providers to submit a demo of their LIMS to be provided to attendees at the 2nd Global LIS Course organized in Johannesburg from September 15 – 18, 2014.  The LIS Course is co-presented by the African Center for Integrated Laboratory Training, the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  In 2013, the first year the course was held, 18 countries participated, many of which are interested in implementing LIMS in their nations.  Therefore an opportunity to view a LIMS demo at this forum is beneficial to both attendees and LIMS providers.

The demos must follow the requirements listed below.  Any demos that do not follow these requirements will be excluded from the exhibition.  Each attendee will be provided with a USB drive that will include all LIMS demos received as well as copies of all course work.

The primary learning objectives for these demos are:

·        Participants will learn about key functionality of a typical LIMS

·        Participants will view these functionalities in action and learn different ways of accomplishing the same task through an LIMS

The secondary learning objectives are:

·        Demos will show how LIMS can effectively support laboratory operations

·        Will show differences in functional approach by vendor to the same need

·        Through discussion, participants will discuss how to approach matching various LIMS systems to their specific needs

While the participants will be able to view the demos at their convenience, we do ask that they be heavily focused on the specifics of the systems and be devoid of pure sales or marketing pitches regarding the company or other non-functional topics.   Beyond that, the requirements to be followed when preparing the demos are as follows:

1.      Demos should be recorded using tools such as CamStudio or similar and the demo saved as AVI or MPG file to allow it to be viewed using standard video viewing software.

2.      Demo must not exceed 15 minutes

3.      Each demo must include all 5 functions listed below

a.      Accessioning sample

b.      Assigning tests

c.      Creating worklists

d.      Uploading/entering results

e.      Reporting

4.      Demos can include the following functions as optional
