2017 is the first performance year for the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), a competitive program that scores clinicians across multiple performance categories for the purpose of awarding Medicare Part B incentives and penalties. Like previous performance programs, such as Meaningful Use, MIPS brings with it new complexities and requirements.
