Scientist, Next Generation Sequencing Core (NCI)

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide next generation sequencing, electron microscopy, protein characterization, protein expression, optical microscopy and genetics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Sequencing Facility is a high throughput laboratory providing cutting edge next generation technologies to the National Cancer Institute.
The Scientist I will be responsible for:
– Assisting with Next Generation (NGS) Sequencing for the core facility. Current platforms include the Illumina HiSeq, NextSeq, MiSeq, PacBio, and additional platforms in the future. All projects are of a highly specialized nature and require technical proficiency, problem solving skills and good judgment
– Work with SF Research & Development group, Director, group leaders and informatics staff to develop, implement, and perform laboratory processes in support of the SF operations, especially for development in the field of long read technology
– Assist in the identification, research, optimization and implementation of new processes or technologies that serve to introduce new applications, or improve data quality or efficiency of production pipelines, especially with a focus on long read sequencing applications
– Coordinate with SF, quality management and informatics personnel to implement updates to equipment, chemistry, and processes
– Remain current with new applications and technologies associated with NGS sample preparation, library construction, sample enrichment and target capture
