MD, Gaithersburg – Corporate Headquarters 
This position is a Mmanager/Sr. Manager role responsible for leading the purification team within the Development Scale Up Center (DSC).   Members of the purification DSC and Scale Up Lab team produce materials for toxicology studies, process development studies, and process performance confirmation.  They generate material and data to confirm process scalability and work collaboratively across development and manufacturing to evaluate process improvements and new purification technologies.    
Key Task and Activities:   The Manager/Sr. Manager of Purification DSC/SUL is expected to support purification operations, provide technical oversight and coaching and developing a team of 5-7 direct reports.  SpecificallySpecifically, the manager will  assignwill assign and participate in purification production activities, generation of run summary reports, preparation of data for CMC/development teams and lead process improvement projects to improve operational efficiency. The manager and team will review, trend, analyze and interpret purification data to ensure consistent product quality and process performance.   Other responsibilities include identifying root causes for deviations, implementing process changes,  ensuringchanges, ensuring effective use of materials, equipment, and personnel in execution of purification runs.  The manager should proactively influence process decisions to avoid production failures, participate in the development and implementation of tools to improve process predictability.  The manager also leads and  attendsand attends relevant meetings, and prepares activity reports/updates as required, ensuring effective communication of ideas, information, and issues to stakeholders. 
Management: This position will oversee a team of 5-7 direct reports and  includeand include responsible for performance management, career development, coaching and training of direct reports.  Resolve daily operational issues within functional area and escalate more complex issues to area management.  Interacts regularly with associates, development scientists, manufacturing, stakeholders and management. 
Requires strong knowledge of biologics purification operations such as chromatography, virus filtration, ultrafiltration and diafiltration.  Good interpersonal skills, leadership and ability to interact with team members and cross-functional teams are required.  
Education & Experience Requirements: 
Manager: Bachelors Degree and 10+ years experience OR Masters degree and 8+ years experience OR PhD 1+ years experience. 
Senior Manager: B achelors Degree and 13+ years experience OR Masters degree and 10+ years experience OR PhD and 3+ years experience.

Requirements: 

Education: 
A Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in chemical engineering, biotechnology, biochemistry or related field. 
Must have the ability to independently coordinate and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work within a team setting.  Flexible work hours will be necessary, including occasional evening and weekend work.
