SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE, CLINICAL IMMUNOLOGY

Position Title: Senior Research Associate, Clinical Immunology

Vir Biotechnology is a clinical-stage immunology company focused on combining immunologic insights with cutting-edge technologies to treat and prevent serious infectious diseases. Vir has assembled four technology platforms that are designed to stimulate and enhance the immune system by exploiting critical observations of natural immune processes. Our current development pipeline consists of product candidates targeting SARS-CoV-2, hepatitis B virus, influenza A, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and tuberculosis.

 

Job Summary:

Vir Bio is seeking a highly motivated and collaborative Senior Research Associate or Associate Scientist to help drive new efforts in the discovery and development of novel therapies for the treatment of infectious disease. You will work within a highly collaborative group environment with other passionate scientists. The successful candidate, under limited guidance, will participate in discovery and translational immunology research efforts aimed at identifying and characterizing novel therapeutic agents using in vitro and ex vivo models. You will work cross-functionally and interact with other groups within the company to advance programs from discovery into development.

 

POSITION SCOPE AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work under supervision of scientists to conduct scientific research using cutting-edge immunologic assays of considerable scope and complexity.
  • Responsible for the optimization, execution, and analysis in vitro immunologic assays
  • Utilize expertise in immunology, molecular biology, cell biology, and more
  • Apply knowledge of scientific methods, both quantitative and/or qualitative, to interpret experimental data, and determine follow-up experiments
  • Document day-to-day activities, keeping accurate records of experimental details and results related to assigned projects
  • Participate in the development and conduct of laboratory meetings, updating group members on background and status of projects by giving oral updates or internal presentations
  • Maintain project timelines and actively participates in team meetings
  • Assist in maintaining the laboratory to conduct necessary experiments
  • Actively seek opportunities to continuously improve.

 

CRITICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Demonstrated track record of productivity using cell-based immunologic assays, such as flow cytometry, assays assessing T cell-Antigen presenting cell interactions, antibody-based assays, ELISA/Luminex platforms, and others
  • Excellent cell culture and sterile technique, including culture of primary human immune cells
  • Proficiency with flow cytometry software (FlowJo, SPADE, SPICE, Cytobank) and other data analysis tools (Prism)
  • A working background in immunology and infectious disease research preferred
  • Hands-on experience in a wide variety of cell biology & molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid purification, qPCR, molecular cloning, Western Blot, ELISA, fluorescence microscopy, and more
  • Ability to work in a high paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and ability to work on inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Desire and demonstrated ability to quickly develop new technical skills, think independently, be results oriented, and have strong attention to detail and organization

 

EDUCATION:

  • BS/MS in molecular and cell biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related field and a minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience
