Show Me the Data: Siemens Healthineers Showcases the Role of Digitalization in Solving Lab Challenges at AACC 2018

CHICAGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–At the 70th AACC Annual Scientific Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo taking place from July 31 to August 2, Siemens Healthineers will showcase an array of digital offerings that turn data into actionable information to address a variety of clinical and operational challenges facing laboratories. Scalable IT solutions from Siemens Healthineers help lab managers identify and address workflow gaps and optimize their operations for increased savings.

Digitalizing Healthcare for Smarter, More Efficient Testing

The Siemens Healthineers Atellica® Diagnostics IT portfolio helps labs digitalize healthcare with open, scalable solutions, advanced analytics, and business intelligence. The offerings help manage processes, data, inventory, connectivity, and clinical decision support.

Siemens Healthineers will preview the soon-to-be-released Atellica® Data Manager1 that delivers clinical details lab managers need to make informed decisions. Atellica Data Manager operationalizes data from patient samples and QC results to standardize testing, optimize QC performance, and maximize the potential of autoverification while reducing operator interventions, unwarranted variations and errors. Open and scalable, Atellica Data Manager is built on the powerful CentraLink® solution currently in use by 1,500+ laboratories in more than 50 countries to help optimize clinical operations, increase testing volumes and improve turnaround times. Tarja Puolakanaho, a chemist at NordLab in Finland, participated in the beta testing and remarked, “CentraLink is the best middleware we’ve seen. Atellica Data Manager has all the same qualities as CentraLink and more … and with better usability.”

Siemens Healthineers will also display Atellica® Inventory Manager, which provides automated, real-time control over reagents and consumables across multiple lab locations to reduce inventory costs, save time, and improve efficiencies. Pre-labeled radio frequency identification (RFID) tags simplify inventory check-in, check-out, and consumption tracking, and, when enabled, consumables can be ordered automatically through cloud-enabled software.

In addition to offering laboratories centralized control and visibility, Atellica® Process Manager now provides advanced analytics and business intelligence capabilities, enabling labs to gain real-time insight into hidden inefficiencies in their workflow. Out-of-the box and interactive reports enable lab managers to assess key metrics such as turnaround times, testing volumes, problem samples, and automation utilization.

To address daily point-of-care challenges such as quality control, compliance and operator certification, POCcelerator Data Management System2 offers point-of-care coordinators vendor-neutral, open connectivity to more than 170 devices, giving coordinators visibility into results, quality controls, operators, reagents, and device data. The information is presented in a clear and structured format. Proactive error logs and a traffic-light system indicate potential problems that can be acknowledged with a single click.

Turning Data into Insight with the Siemens Healthineers Digital Ecosystem

Siemens Healthineers will demonstrate its investment in transforming healthcare through digital innovations with its Digital Ecosystem.3The open and secured cloud environment combines data from lab and imaging devices, which can be leveraged by applications from Siemens Healthineers and other partner companies to provide solutions to the lab. Siemens Healthineers will showcase its first lab partner XIFIN4 and demonstrate how its Revenue Cycle Management solution helps to optimize the laboratory’s financial performance, by identifying potential outreach and outpatient testing reimbursement gaps.

Transforming Care Delivery by Delivering Expertise

Complementing the company’s digital offerings, Siemens Healthineers will feature its Laboratory As A Business (LAAB) Consulting Service designed to address clinical, operational and financial challenges of laboratories, and help position the lab as a decision maker and a powerful contributor to the objectives of value-based care in health systems. LAAB recommends or structures sustainable solutions that help achieve strategic business objectives by leveraging the capabilities of the lab and informatics offerings, expertise, and competencies from Siemens Healthineers.
