Software Point awarded contract for Swedish national Biobank register

Software Point has signed a contract with all 21 counties in Sweden for delivering a solution for the NAT-RBR (national register for biobanks). The signed contract covers the implementation, a 5 year usage of the system and will be in production September 2009.

The NAT-RBR system will have as many as 2500 professional users and will maintain information for each patient’s biobank samples. The system will be the largest of its kind in Northern Europe and will be implemented based on Sapphire Biobanking, a software application designed to support biobanks. It’s a global standard product, developed by LabVantage Solutions Inc in the USA. Software Point represents LabVantage in the Nordics and has delivered over 40 Sapphire based laboratory information and biobank systems in the Nordics since year 2000.

“Though we have already had excellent success in delivering biobanks to our current customers, the Swedish national register for biobanks is a system in its own scale. We are very excited to be chosen to deliver the first national scale biobank system in Northern Europe” says Jouko Kuisma, Business Area Manager for healthcare and biobanks within Software Point.

“Biobanks are a very important area of development within the healthcare and clinical research sectors. It is a sensitive area in which utmost care needs to be taken to follow the donors’ consent for sample use, as well as local legislation. Sweden is a Nordic pioneer with national legislation on biobanks already in place. We expect the other Nordic countries to follow soon.” says Andrea Holmberg, CEO of Software Point.
