Software Point to deliver an extensive hospital laboratory information system to Region Skåne in Southern Sweden

Press Release 8th August 2012

Software Point, a company specializing in laboratory information systems and headquartered in Espoo, Finland, today announced a contract with Region Skåne, the regional public authority of Southern Sweden, for the delivery of a new region-wide hospital laboratory information system (LIS). LABVANTAGE C5, a product developed by Software Point, was selected in a public procurement to become the enterprise-wide LIS for the region.

The turn-key delivery will include support for clinical chemistry, microbiology, pathology, clinical genetics, blood banking and biobanks. Skåne had ordered a module for digital pathology earlier and it will be taken in production later this year.

The implementation of LABVANTAGE C5 will enable us to focus – in a whole new way – on optimizing and increasing the efficiency of our cross-disciplinary processes”, comments Bo Carlbark, Executive Director of Labmedicin Skåne, the regional laboratory organization.

During the course of the past few years, we have invested substantially in advanced analysis instruments and laboratory automation. Soon, with the LABVANTAGE C5 in place, we expect to be able to even better utilize our investments – aided in this by the new LIMS representing the absolute forefront of technology”, comments Jurko Zoric, IT and Medical Technology Manager of Labmedicin Skåne. “We also expect to be able to lower our IT costs due to moving to a centrally deployed, web-based architecture.

This contract will strengthen our position as the leading vendor of new LIS systems in the Nordic (including Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark) healthcare market. During the past few years, our LABVANTAGE C5 has won more contracts in this region than our competitors combined. Our recent customers include Norrbotten, Jönköping, Halland and Linköping counties of Sweden and private service laboratories such as Aleris Medilab. We are, in fact, the only vendor who has had significant international success with a unified product in the Nordic healthcare IT market”, comments Andrea Holmberg, CEO of Software Point.

“This is the largest hospital LIS contract for us so far. An additional treat is the fact that this is the first project in the Nordics where the customer will get a true, multi-disciplinary LIS which will cover the whole enterprise and replace all of their legacy systems. This is the kind of development that we see taking place even elsewhere among the largest hospital laboratories”, hints Jouko Kuisma, Business Director for healthcare at Software Point.
