Description
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) is seeking sources capable of providing the agency with a single in-plant test that is capable of detecting sulfas and antibiotics at the tolerance level in porcine and bovine kidney. The current in-plant test was developed by FSIS and it called the Fast Anti-microbial Screening Test (FAST Test). The FAST test is capable of detecting beta lactams (both penicillins and cephalosporins), aminoglycosides, macrolides, tetracyclines, and sulfas. FAST is not capable, however, of detecting sulfas at the 100 ppb level, which is the tolerance for several sulfa compounds. Tolerances for drugs in these classes may be found at http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/CFRSearch.cfm?CFRPart=556
