Job Overview:

Lead or mentor technical team. Investigate, develop, test and recommend new software solutions for existing or proposed processes. Evaluate and implement new applications and support on-going effective utilization of applications. Support LIMS (Lab Information Management System) and other laboratory quality systems. This is a global position, and it will require working with end users or colleagues in different timezones and occasionally outside normal working hours.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Build and mentor team members.
  • Organize, analyze, prioritize departmental work demands  for assignment to others. Be responsible for quality, value, and timeliness of deliveries of team members.
  • Articulate ideas and solution to peers and stakeholders for acceptance.
  • Maintain industry knowledge of technical advances in LIMS and other laboratory solutions.
  • Meet with users to plan the implementation of LIMS, enhancements and assess impact to operations and necessary work flow changes.
  • Identify opportunities for improving LIMS functionality and performance.
  • Focuses on meeting customer expectations and working with a customer service mindset.
  • Meet with lab management teams to plan the implementation of LIMS, enhancements and assess impact to operations and necessary work flow changes.
  • Design and architect technical solutions that meets functional requirements.
  • Develop coding standards and perform code reviews.
  • Develop and enhance LIMS systems which include requirement analysis, designing, programming, configuration, upgrades/patches, system documentation, custom reports, bug fixes,  and training.
  • Configure and support LIMS analysis, test lists and other LIMS static data as needed.
  • Develop Crystal and Excel reports, data reports to customers, Key Performance Indicator reports and any other reports needed to support the laboratory functions.
  • Support the business in the retrieval of data from LIMS. Provide data for analysis utilizing queries and reporting tools.
  • Provide support of LIMS systems which include troubleshooting, configuration, administration, upgrades/patches, system documentation,  bug fixes,  and training.
  • Be part of the weekly on call rotation.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor a technical team.
  • Demonstrated ability to design technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to build programming standards.
  • The incumbent should have a basic knowledge of system development life cycle (SDLC).
  • The incumbent should possess a minimum of 5 years of IT systems configuration and support experience gained through college coursework or work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relational database backend programming such as stored procedures, functions, packages, database triggers and PL/SQL
  • Minimum of 2 years of programming experience using programming language such VB, Windows scripting language, Java
  • Experience in building SQL queries, optimization and fine tuning is preferred.
  • Experience applying knowledge of laboratory workflow and Quality Control principles preferred.
  • The incumbent must be well organized with effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Possess a positive attitude and be able to multitask on several projects simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with industry standard scientific instruments will be a plus
  • The ability to interact with all levels of the organization is necessary to be able to complete all tasks effectively.

Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science and/or programming

Competencies:

  • LIMS application (Labware V5/7 will be a plus)
  • Reporting tools for example Crystal reports v9/v11
  • Programmation language experience in Visual Basic, Java
  • Database programming experience in
    • Database concept (Schema, table, view materialized view, trigger, stored procedure…)
    • Oracle
    • SQL
    • PL-SQL
  • Interface with instruments in a Laboratory
  • Leadership
  • Office tools:
    • Microsoft tools Word, Excel
    • Google tools
    • Ticketing tools
  • Knowledge on Chemistry or Microbiology will be a plus
