Starfruit IdentiTrack® LIMS Reveals How to Batch Samples with QC

For a DNA analyst to testify and to withstand judicial scrutiny, it is critical to know that the quality control and assurance procedures have been performed and demonstrate that testing has been conducted without unexpected glitches.  As operations scale up for higher throughput with batch instruments and automation, it becomes more difficult to link, monitor, and document the quality control and assurance procedures.

Starfruit IdentiTrack® LIMS version 3.0.0.1 delivers features of dynamic worksheets to capture the test results at any stage of DNA analysis enabling a DNA scientist to create and track standards, controls, and QC samples in addition to the investigated DNA samples.  This is a powerful tool to customize and organize the DNA casework because each worksheet incorporates and links the set of samples, the electronic protocols, chemical preparation sheets, and chemical inventory data.  The mechanism allows tracking the sample processing from the beginning to the end and therefore provides the autofill of the sample list for each worksheet depending on sample results of the previous processing stages.  Starfruit IdentiTrack® associates QC samples with the batched analytical test results.  A DNA scientist can add samples to the already batched sample worksheets. Starfruit IdentiTrack® may re-batch samples after initial test results are returned (e.g. initial batch was 100 samples, 50 are negative, re-batch the other 50 for second test run).

Starfruit IdentiTrack® version 3.0.0.1 specifically addresses the quality controls and lot numbers for use with ABI, Promega, and Reliagene kits (including Profiler Plus, Profiler/Cofiler, Identifier, Qualifier (Y), Y-plex, etc.).  Moreover, a DNA scientist may optimize any kit or reagent received from manufacturers using Starfruit IdentiTrack® to record the optimization protocol and results of reagents and kits.  Starfruit IdentiTrack® can compose unbiased and comprehensive final test results reports that include standards, controls, QC samples, in addition to the investigated DNA samples, if desired; otherwise the LIMS will store such information if it should become necessary to recover it.  Paul Sollitti, Ph.D., TS (ABB), President of IDNA Systems, Inc. said, “It was obvious from my search that your software absolutely got it right on tracking.  With the flexibility being added in the next release, the software is hard to beat.”
