Forensics Releases FR 11.0

The STARLIMS Forensic Business Unit is pleased to announce the release of FR11.0. The last forensic release was in April of 2012. This is the first forensic release on the STARLIMS v11 technology platform.  STARLIMS v11 offers Advanced Analytics dashboards and supports mobility applications as required by our customers.

The goal of the Forensic team is to deliver comprehensive, user-friendly forensic life cycle software solutions that provide quality service to the judicial system. FR11.0 includes more than 360 enhancements to our system. Enhancement ideas come from new client projects, existing clients, internal discussions, and the STARLIMS Forensic Advisory Board.

Key areas of improvement for FR11.0 include:

  • General data entry – The option to enter data on a single screen in lieu of using a wizard was added in key places, such as Crime Scene and Container Management (i.e. Evidence Intake).
  • Streamlined workflows – Whether it is chain of custody transfers or working through a latent print case, a key developmental focus of FR11.0 has been to make it easy for users to go to the next logical step in the process.
  • MS Word – Integration of MS Word for examiner and crime scene reports.
  • Quality Assurance – Numerous QA enhancements to help our clients achieve, document, and maintain their accreditations with a focus on ISO17025. Some examples include:
    • The ability to identify all cases/exhibits/analyses in which a specific reagent was utilized.
    • Display various quality records in a single report known as a QA Compilation. This is very helpful when generating conformance documents.
    • Grant Management – A new application that is used to generate reports that list materials and inventory items purchased with grants and the cases they were utilized in.
    • Various functional enhancements to the CAR, PAR, and Incident Log applications.
    • Compliance checklist versioning.
  • DNA:
    • DNA sample work list per DNA step.
    • DNA Profile cross-tab view.
    • Default step types.
    • Validation of sample positions.
