Symyx Announces Discovery Notebook 4.1

SANTA CLARA, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Symyx Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:SMMX) today announced that Symyx Software Discovery Notebook 4.1 will be available in the third quarter of 2007. Following up on the .NET-based Discovery Notebook version 4.0 launched in January 2007, Discovery Notebook 4.1 supports multiple operating systems including Macintosh. Using Discovery Notebook, now more chemists in pharmaceutical discovery research can plan, record and analyze experiments more efficiently and effectively than with traditional paper lab notebooks.

Discovery Notebook is one of a series of Symyx Software offerings which include electronic lab notebook (ELN) applications tailored to meet the specific needs and protocols of chemists in the discovery, process, analytical, formulations and bioprocess functions. The latest versions of Discovery Notebook features include:

  • easy-to-use interface for single and parallel experimentation,
  • advanced software developer kit (SDK) that enables integration to corporate registries and inventory systems,
  • extensive searching and browsing capabilities, and
  • a pre-loaded reaction template database containing 21,000 transformations and 170,000 compounds.

Our customers want the flexibility to run their research and development on the same platforms as their corporate systems to enable better communication within R&D and within the organization as a whole. Symyx Discovery Notebook helps improve integration and efficiencies of laboratory resources and teams, said Timothy Campbell, President of Symyx Software. Those efficiencies enable broader experimentation, better research and more commercial outcomes for our customers.

With its Discovery Notebook, Symyx offers a software solution for a variety of customer needs. For enterprise-wide deployments, the Symyx ELN integrates with the Symyx Vault document management platform. Symyx Vault, also used in other Symyx notebook applications, provides a single, comprehensive platform for ELN documents that can span the entire R&D organization. With the Vault platform, Symyx electronic lab notebook software supports document browsing and searching, enterprise-level security and auditing, and a configurable and highly flexible document workflow.
