Synthematix Introduces Intelligent Tool for Chemical Library Planning

Synthematix®, Inc., a provider of chemistry reaction planning and knowledge management systems, announced today the newest addition to its product suite, Library Builder.

Library Builder is a practical, intuitive enumeration tool for chemists who want to create focused parallel experiments without the overhead, cost and difficulty of similar tools on the market today.  It adds combinatorial and parallel chemistry functionality to Synthematix’s Arthur Suite by allowing all chemists to easily build and modify libraries utilizing their preferred reagent sets, conditions and formats.

“Library Builder is a critical component of our strategy to provide technology that works well for the needs of all scientists in the various sub-disciplines found in research and development,” said Steve Jones, CEO of Synthematix.  “Chemical library design has evolved in the past decade from a specialized discipline practiced only by a few.  Many chemists now have the need for tools and interfaces that allow them to easily choose the materials, mode, methodology and layout of their libraries.”

Library Builder helps chemists plan reactions using Markush-based rules and enumerate multiple products based on their chemistry.  This ability, combined with the one-click export of data to common formats such as SD, RDF and Reaction Planner experiment files (rXML files), connects the previously fragmented worlds of combinatorial and medicinal chemistry scientists.

“Library Builder is easy to use and integrates seamlessly with our electronic lab notebook,” said Eric Carlson, Ph.D., of Eisai Research Institute.  “All of our parallel synthesis knowledge is now part of our medicinal chemistry knowledge base, and we can generate reports that are flexible and make sense for our formats.”

Library Builder was designed and built with a consortium of Arthur Suite customers.  This collaborative approach to building a tool that meets the exact needs of the market was undertaken and completed within eight months.  Short development turnaround has become a hallmark of Synthematix’s relationship with its customers.

“Our customers helped us refine the workflow between library planning, experimentation and recording of results,” said Jones.  “We took that understanding and produced a product that furthers chemists’ abilities to collaborate, explore and share scientific knowledge.”
