Teranode Extends R&D Platform Through Integrations with KEGG, Affymetrix, and MATLAB®

Teranode Corporation, the leading innovator of design automation software for the Life Sciences industry, announced it is developing integrations with leading industry technologies KEGG, Affymetrix, and MATLAB. The new integrations extend Teranode’s closed-loop R&D strategy through incorporation of data and model repositories, laboratory equipment, and data analytics. Through these new initiatives, customers can now translate model and data streams into VLX (Visual Language of eXperimentation), enabling integration of experimental design, data capture, analysis, and reporting through one solution.

VLX is an XML implementation that allows protocol and systems biology models and their contents to be formally described and documented. VLX model contents include simulated and experimental data, annotations, workflow automation, and audit trails. Teranode’s partner integrations will increase the value of existing R&D point solutions through collaboration, model-based analytics, compliance, reporting, and search. The result is a single solution that can close the loop from experimental design through reporting to accelerate Life Sciences R&D.

Strategic Alignments Extend Closed-Loop Platform, Expand Point Solutions
“Strategic alignments with proven industry leaders are critical to creating closed-loop R&D for Life Sciences,” said Matthew Shanahan, chief marketing officer for Teranode. “By ensuring that KEGG, Affymetrix, and MATLAB® models and data can easily translate to VLX, Teranode customers can easily leverage existing investments into a collaborative platform for accelerating R&D productivity whether it is in discovery, pre-clinical, or clinical applications.”

The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) is a suite of databases and associated software or repositories that integrate current knowledge on molecular interaction networks in biological processes, including information about genes and proteins, as well as chemical compounds and reactions. Teranode has acquired a KEGG developer license from Pathways Solutions, Inc. to support data and model repository development with its VLX standard format, greatly expanding the possibilities of exchange of intellectual property within the Life Sciences, and accelerating R&D globally.

In addition, Teranode is using the Affymetrix Development Kit to support laboratory equipment integration. Affymetrix is a market leader in developing state-of-the-art technology tools for acquiring, analyzing, and managing complex genetic information for use in biomedical research. Teranode integration to key Affymetrix equipment will allow researchers to break from the confines of proprietary systems to easily exchange data and models within the laboratory for increased collaboration and accelerated R&D.

Further, many within the scientific community rely on MATLAB, technical computing software for engineers and scientists in industry, government, and education. Through Teranode’s new development, The MathWorks, Inc. customers will be able to easily translate between MATLAB programs and VLX, adding qualitative capabilities to what was a purely quantitative modeling environment.

“As a modeling platform, TERANODE Design Suite eliminates the traditional trade-off between flexibility and interoperability by relying on a language – in this case VLX – rather than a hard-wired database schema to integrate with the existing R&D landscape,” said Larry Arnstein, chief technology office for Teranode. “Our VLX language allows models and data from disparate technologies to be aggregated and integrated into a collaborative R&D platform without forcing limitations regarding application scenarios.”
