Thermo Electron Adds Web Capabilities to Nautilus LIMS

February 23 2004

Thermo Electron Corporation (NYSE: TMO) announces the availability of a new Web browser interface and powerful XML (eXtensible Markup Language) processing capabilities in the latest version of its Nautilus LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System). These latest enhancements speed deployment, facilitate integration with other technologies and applications, and reduce operating costs. Nautilus LIMS sets new standards for configurability, functionality and efficient use of resources in R&D laboratory environments.

This new version of Nautilus greatly simplifies access to data, allowing for more streamlined lab processes with users able to work more efficiently within the lab. Functionality can quickly and cost-effectively be extended to authorized scientists and researchers operating at other facilities, conducting related and collaborative projects outside the lab. Individuals can submit samples and access up-to-date sample data and reports via an intuitive Web interface. Nautilus security ensures users access only those sample results they are authorized to view. As users submit samples and view data remotely, lab personnel spend less time responding to requests for status updates and have better insight to upcoming workloads. In addition, the intuitive Web interface allows even the most casual users to generate HTML reports which can be viewed from the browser.

Customers benefit from productivity gains and cost savings:

  • No client installations – updating all users is as simple as updating the web server with no implementation or upgrade delays
  • Reduced system validation costs
  • Reduced costs for IT administration, training, and deployment
  • Streamlined access to data for increased efficiency and productivity

Nautilus now supports character sets that use double-byte character encoding, which enables more customers located East Asia to deploy own-language versions.

Thermo will feature Nautilus LIMS at the Pittsburgh Conference held March 7-12 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
