Thermo Electron Software Named “Readers’ Choice” For Spectroscopy, LIMS and CDS Products

Thermo Electron Corporation today announced that its GRAMS desktop spectroscopy software is named the 2005 Readers’ Choice Award winner for spectroscopy software in an annual survey*, and that Thermo’s SampleManager laboratory information management system and Atlas chromatography data system were finalists in the LIMS and CDS categories. Thermo is the only company with its products nominated in these three categories for 2005.

Each year approximately 45,000 scientific and IT managers are polled for their recommendations for the best products in their field. This year sees Thermo Electron nominated in three categories for LIMS, CDS and Spectroscopy Software. “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the people who are using our software to make their work easier and more productive,” said Dave Champagne, vice president and general manager of Thermo’s informatics business. “The users of software products provide the best independent testimonial for high value software, and to receive nominations for three different products is high praise. Thermo is determined to continue to lead the way in LIMS, CDS and spectroscopy software development.”

The winning nomination was for Thermo’s GRAMS Suite – a desktop spectroscopy data processing and reporting software solution for visualizing, processing and managing spectroscopy data. GRAMS offers broad compatibility with many different instrument data types and a simple user interface. Life and analytical science researchers rely on GRAMS’ powerful collection of processing routines to solve some of their most difficult data analysis problems. The GRAMS Suite improves access to data and facilitates collaboration while reducing the need for multiple software packages and associated training.

Nominated in the LIMS category was SampleManager, Thermo’s flagship LIMS, which is designed for organizations seeking a standard LIMS for all their labs to enhance productivity and process harmonization. With proven, dependable technology at its core, the SampleManager solution ensures predictable deployments and consistent performance. SampleManager can be implemented to support both local and global lab deployments, is scalable for a large user base and available in multiple languages. The product integrates with other applications and instruments, providing a foundation for a complete lab automation solution.

Finalist in the CDS category, Atlas is an enterprise chromatography data system designed to scale up from a single workstation to multi-channel, multi-user client/server implementations. Ideal for networked, secure and regulated environments, Atlas controls hundreds of instruments from a variety of vendors. Atlas was developed in partnership with leading chromatographers to easily configure to any laboratory’s workflow while providing the flexibility to integrate with LIMS and other data management systems for a scalable, compliant solution.

* The 2005 Readers’ Choice comprises a survey of readers undertaken annually by Scientific Computing & Instrumentation to determine product preferences in approximately 20 informatics categories. The results to the 2005 survey were announced 11 July 2005.
