Tripos Announces New Suite of Innovative Laboratory Informatics Software; New Benchware Product Family to Be Introduced at Upcoming Drug Discovery Technology Conference

Tripos, Inc., a leading provider of drug discovery informatics products and chemistry research, today announced the availability of its new laboratory informatics product suite, Benchware(TM), to be launched at the Drug Discovery Technology (DDT) Conference in Boston, Aug. 9-11, 2005.

Tripos developed Benchware in direct response to customer demand for more intuitive and scientifically robust predictive chemistry, scientific planning and collaboration applications designed for laboratory scientists. Benchware applications are used by laboratory researchers to support chemical synthesis and testing decisions; digitally store, search and retrieve research information; and share experimental results with project team members, including computational scientists.

“Benchware is a key enabler for life science companies looking to better manage innovation and improve discovery operations,” said Dr. David Lowis, senior director of product management at Tripos. “Benchware applications not only provide laboratory chemists with the autonomy to more accurately answer challenging questions such as ‘What should I synthesize or test next?’ but also allow them to more fluidly communicate their ideas and the results of their research to others.”

With the introduction of its new Benchware laboratory informatics suite, Tripos adds a second major product line to its discovery informatics portfolio, which already includes the SYBYL(R) suite of computational informatics applications. SYBYL was the first molecular modeling software suite to market, originally introduced in the early 1980s, and remains one of the world’s pre-eminent computational chemistry suites, in use at nearly every major pharmaceutical research site in the world.

Tripos’ new Benchware portfolio includes the following products:

— Benchware 3D Explorer provides chemical visualization and decision support capabilities to laboratory scientists. Benchware 3D Explorer was formerly marketed by Tripos under the product name LITHIUM(R).

— Benchware HTS DataMiner offers functionality dedicated to the location, definition and prioritization of prospective lead series from screening data sets of any size. Benchware HTS DataMiner was formerly marketed by Tripos under the product name SARNavigator(TM).

— Benchware LibraryMaker offers a range of product-based library enumeration features for rapidly enumerating parallel compound libraries as well as very large virtual combinatorial libraries.

— Benchware LibraryDesigner helps laboratory chemists decide which reactants to use when making parallel compound libraries as well as very large virtual combinatorial libraries.

In addition to these Benchware products, two new Tripos laboratory informatics applications will be introduced during the DDT conference in Boston. Demonstrations of these new products will be given at the Tripos exhibition Booth 501 as well as at a Tripos-led technology workshop on Aug. 10 at 4:15 p.m. EDT in room 102B.
